Rousimar Palhares came into today’s Fight Nights Global 85 co-headliner overweight for his planned interim welterweight title fight. It didn’t matter, though. Aliaskhab Khizriev didn’t let him get close to the gold.

Vladimir Seliversto got a big knockout against Alexander Dankov , but after the fight it was referee Marc Goddard who raised the most eyebrows for his questionable stoppage. In the final minute of the first round in the light heavyweight bout, Seliversto (3-0) dropped his opponent with a big punch. He followed up with another shot that put Dankov (2-3) out. It was at that moment Goddard appeared he was going to step in, and Seliversto stopped striking and turned to the referee. Goddard decided not to end the fight, though, and told Seliversto to keep attacking. Dankov had barely regained his wits, and moments later he was out again due to Seliversto’s ground-and-pound blows

Ismail Sagov wasn’t interested in spending much time in the cage at today’s Fight Nights Global 85 event. Sagov (1-1) made his first career win a memorable one when he stopped Eradzh Kholov (3-3) with punches just 10 seconds into their heavyweight bout during the online-streamed event at VTB Ice Palace in Moscow. The fight was seemingly over before anyone besides Sagov realized it’d begun (in fact, the camerman and producer were a few seconds late in getting the start of the finishing sequence). The Russian went straight at Kholov and connected with a massive right hand that led to the knockdown

At next week’s Fight Nights Global 85 event, submission specialist Rousimar Palhares will challenge for the promotion’s welterweight title, and he’s promising a performance that is not to be missed. “My opponent is still undefeated,” Palhares said through a translator. “He has a strong punch. It’s not a coincidence that he became the contender for the championship belt. But I’m ready – absolutely.” Brazil’s Palhares (19-8-1) takes on Russia’s Aliaskhab Khizriev (9-0) in the co-main event of Fight Nights Global 85, which takes place March 30 at VTB Ice Palace in Moscow.
