‘Rampage’ Jackson on Roy Jones Jr. fight: ‘Tito f—ed all that up’

Bellator MMA light heavyweight and ex-UFC champ Quinton Jackson said he wanted to fight former boxing champ Roy Jones Jr. at the promotion’s pay-per-view event slated for winter. But UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz put the kibosh on that. Or in the words of “Rampage,” “f—ed it all up.” This past week, Bellator threw MMA fans a curveball when it announced Ortiz as Jackson’s opponent rather than Jones, who had been targeted for a boxing match with “Rampage.” Jackson (32-11 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Ortiz (16-11-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who’ve been friends for over a decade, will headline the Viacom-owned promotion’s first foray into pay-per-view on Nov. 2 at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, Calif. Jackson said he was putting together a training camp for Jones and planned to cut to 200 pounds, which is the limit for boxing cruiserweights, when he got word that Bellator was going to sign Ortiz. Kun Khmer Champion Long Sophy Added to ONE FC Jakarta Fight Card

Kun Khmer veteran Long Sophy has been added to the ONE FC Jakarta fight card. The 23-year-old will become the first Cambodian fighter in history to compete for a major international MMA promotion. ONE FC’s second foray into Indonesian territory is scheduled for Sept. 13 at the 15,000-capacity Istora Senayan Stadium. The undercard will feature Sophy taking on fellow debutant Max Metino in a featherweight fight. Kun Khmer, also known as Pradal Serey, can be traced back as far as the ninth century. It is the Cambodian equivalent of Muay Thai with televised fights taking place every single weekend in the capital city of Phnom Penh.

UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 Confirmed for Brazil; Glover Teixeira vs. Ryan Bader Headlines

UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 will take place on Sept. 4 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. UFC officials this week confirmed the event, as well as several previously rumored bouts. The UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 main event pits Brazilian light heavyweight standout Glover Teixeira against The Ultimate Fighter 8 winner Ryan Bader . Teixeira will be fighting in his home state of Minas Gerais, while the bout marks Bader’s first foray to Brazil. The co-main event will see former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza go up against perennial middleweight contender Yushin Okami. Both men are trying to fight into contention for the belt currently held by Anderson Silva

Bellator Announces New TV Deal, Launches Into the U.K. Market on VIVA

Bellator MMA on Thursday announced that it is finally moving into the U.K. market with a new television deal. Bellator will begin airing its live events with Bellator 96 on June 19 on the VIVA channel in the U.K. VIVA is owned by Viacom, which is also owns Bellator and Spike TV. VIVA will air Bellator’s Summer Series events, as well as its ninth season over the fall and winter of this year. Bellator’s foray into the U.K. market increases its global reach to 116 countries and territories.
