The UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card slated for Aug. 17 in Boston will move forward as planned after UFC officials avoided disaster due to Massachusetts’ requirement for all fighters to have a social security number in order to compete. The requirement nearly tripped up several foreign fighters on the card since they would not normally have a social security number. UFC officials worked overtime, however, to make sure that the fight card will move forward as planned, according to a Boston Herald report. Fighters that enter the U.S. with a valid visa can apply for a social security number. It’s a time consuming process, but the UFC worked with the proper authorities to make it happen.

Joe Warren literally had a front-row seat for the unscripted reactions of the welterweight contestants on “Bellator MMA: Fight Master,” and his suspicion that he’d lose the show’s popularity contest wasn’t far off. To be fair, the competition for coaching was stiff. As winning fighters walked out of the cage to choose who would guide them through the reality show, they were greeted by a quartet of MMA notables: Randy Couture , Greg Jackson, Frank Shamrock and Warren. When fighters interviewed them for the job, you probably can guess which one got the most attention “A lot of the foreign fighters had like, a boy crush on Randy,” Warren (8-3 MMA, 6-2 BFC) told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com). So Warren, an ex-Bellator champ, did what good fighters do and adapted. “I tried to push that I’m the only person that’s actually a Bellator guy, that’s fought two tournaments and won a belts for them,” said the 36-year-old fighter, who previously won the promotion’s Season 2 tournament and the featherweight belt. “So I sold the idea that I understand the organization. If you want to be a champ, you’ve gotta come with me.” You can see the results as the teams begin to form over the next few weeks.

August’s UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 event reportedly could be in trouble due to a legal snafu that affects the card’s international fighters. According to the Boston Herald , the UFC’s debut show on the new FOX Sports 1 channel faces issues due to a Massachusetts law that bars foreign-born fighters from competing in the state without Social Security numbers. That could create problems for the Aug. 17 show, which takes place at TD Garden in Boston. Foreign fighters Mauricio Rua and Alistair Overeem are in the main event and co-main event, respectively fighting Chael Sonnen and Travis Browne , and others are part of the undercard
