Forrest Griffin reflects on 20-year anniversary of winning Season 1 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’

Forrest Griffin is largely responsible for saving the UFC. 20 years ago, Griffin won Season 1 of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a light heavyweight. His memorable war with the late Stephan Bonnar on April 9, 2005 helped the promotion at a time where they were struggling financially, and the UFC brass are forever grateful for it. Despite losing the fight, Bonnar was also awarded a UFC contract. Griffin and Bonnar helped put the UFC on the map, and bolstered television ratings that night.

UFC staff is making the most out of April Fools. The employees of the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas put together a master plan to scare fighters and other UFC staff as they enter the building. The prank consisted of replacing a mannequin in the lobby of the building with a person dressed head to toe just in a one-piece bodysuit and a UFC fight kit. The prankster stood still in the same pose as the real mannequin and waited for the victims to walk in. Among the fighters who fell to the prank were Cody Garbrandt , Forrest Griffin , Claudia Gadelha , Jessica Andrade , and more. Some were startled, while others like Donald Cerrone had a completely different reaction.
