Shortly after knocking out Mac Danzig at UFC on FOX 7, Melvin Guillard said he would continue to live in Florida but train in Colorado, where he’d prepared for the fight at Grudge Training Center.

SEATTLE – Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 8 event drew an announced attendance of 7,816 and a live gate of $735,000. UFC President Dana White announced the figures at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended. UFC on FOX 8 took place at KeyArena in Seattle and featured a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga . The four-fight main card aired on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. While the number of complimentary tickets issued was not revealed, the figures represent an average of $94.04 in revenue generated per ticket issued. The Washington State Department of Licensing is expected to release official attendance and gate numbers in the coming days.

Gilbert Melendez finds 15-minute silver lining on path back to UFC title fight

Gilbert Melendez saw Benson Henderson ‘s hand get raised, and right away he started looking for the silver lining. It didn’t take long for the former Strikeforce lightweight champion to find one after Henderson beat him by split-decision in a UFC title fight at UFC on FOX 7 in April. “I’m excited to fight three five-minute rounds,” Melendez recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “Initially after I lost, the first thing on my mind more than anything was, ‘Heck yeah – 15 minutes, that’s way easier.’ I’ve been training for 25-minute fights my last 10 fights, and it’s kind of tough on the body.” And because Melendez has indeed been in 10 straight title fights – going the full 25 minutes six times – he’ll get a welcome training reprieve now, while trying to work his way back to where he wants to be, and that’s back in another title fight. The road back there for Melendez (21-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) starts against Diego Sanchez (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) in October at UFC 166 in Houston, a fight booking first reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com)

Tim Means replaces Bobby Green, faces Danny Castillo at UFC on FOX 8

Today’s third change to this month’s UFC on FOX 8 event sees a shake-up in a lightweight fight, as Tim Means (18-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) replaces an injured Bobby Green (20-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and now meets Danny Castillo (15-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) . UFC officials today announced the switch. Featuring a flyweight title fight between current champ Demetrious Johnson and top challenger John Moraga , UFC on FOX 8 takes place July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. Castillo vs. Means takes place on the FX-broadcast portion of the night. Means looks to bounces back from a disappointing decision loss to Jorge Masvidal at April UFC on FOX 7 event. The result snapped an 11-fight unbeaten streak for Means, who opened his UFC career with wins over Justin Salas and Bernardo Magalhaes

Following several years of inconsistent scheduling and sporadic results, Josh Thomson finally made his return to the Octagon by squaring off with Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 7 in April 2013. Thomson spent much of the past eight or nine years fighting for Strikeforce, but found it difficult to fight consistently due to scheduling and injuries. He managed an eight-fight winning streak at one point, but went 3-3 in his six most recent fights prior to his UFC return, leading many to believe his best days were behind him. Such assessments were likely shadowed by the dimmer lights he had been fighting under. Many wrote Thomson off before he ever set foot back in the Octagon, but the one-time UFC title contender wasted no time putting a stamp on his return, embracing the return of the white-hot spotlight. He did something no other fighter has ever done: he knocked Nate Diaz out. Once he did that, other fighters came out of the woodwork wanting to fight him

UFC on FUEL TV 10′s Raphael Assuncao didn’t know his arm was broken

Raphael Assuncao thought he had torn a muscle in his arm as he fought Mike Easton at UFC on FOX 7 back in December. As he later found out, the problem was much deeper. “It was only after the fight that I realized my arm was really broken,” Assuncao told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). As he points out, he was still able to control Easton as they went the full three rounds and eventually to the scorecards, where he earned a unanimous decision victory.
