UFC 278 Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay: Luke Rockhold nets $11,000 in farewell fight

SALT LAKE CITY – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 278 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $226,000. The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy. UFC 278 took place at Vivint Arena.

Albazi (15-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) returned from a roughly 18-month layoff and added to his increasingly impressive record when he took advantage of Figueiredo (13-5-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC), the brother of UFC champ Deiveson Figueiredo, on the mat and scored a rear-naked choke submission victory at the 4:34 mark of Round 1. The UFC’s eighth numbered event of the year takes place Saturday with UFC 278 , which takes place at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN/ABC and early prelims on ESPN+. An unprecedented matchup takes place in the main event, with two fighters carrying UFC unbeaten streaks of 10 fights or more against each other for the first time. Reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (20-1 MMA, 15-0 UFC) will look to add to his 15-fight winning streak and match Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive fights in the promotion without a loss, while Leon Edwards (18-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) brings a 10-fight unbeaten streak into his first title opportunity. The last time they met, Usman won a unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 17 in December 2015, but Edwards hasn’t lost since. Previously announced, welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (20-1 MMA, 15-0 UFC) will defend his title against top contender Leon Edwards (19-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) in a rematch of their December 2015 clash. Also on the card, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (31-7 MMA, 21-6 UFC) battles Merab Dvalishvili (14-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and middleweights Paulo Costa (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Luke Rockhold square off in a long-awaited matchup. LAS VEGAS – Francisco Figueiredo scored a historic submission win at UFC on ESPN 35. Figueiredo (13-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) submitted Daniel da Silva with a kneebar this past Saturday at the UFC Apex and became the first flyweight in company history to do so. The brother of UFC 125-pound champion Deiveson Figueiredo explained that he didn’t expect da Silva to shoot on him, but he was ready for that position. “He surprised me with that takedown to start the fight,” Figueiredo told MMA Junkie at a post-fight news conference

UFC on ESPN 35 bonuses: Marlon Vera gets $100,000 because of Font’s weight miss
