Julian Erosa Heads into CageSport 25 Looking to Earn His Way Back to the Belt

After suffering his first loss late last year, featherweight prospect Julian Erosa rebounded earlier this year in convincing fashion with a win over Jason Gybels at CageSport 24 . “I’d fought him once before and knocked him out, so going into that fight I wasn’t going to say it was easy, but it’s always a confidence booster whenever you’ve beat them convincingly (before),” said Erosa. “So I wasn’t really switching my game plan, I just kind of did the same thing, and I ended up getting him with a submission in the second round. “My plan was to go in there, wear him down, and capitalize on it. That was definitely a boost in the right direction coming off the loss to (Drew) Brokenshire.” Erosa will be looking to get his second straight win and take one step closer to challenging for the CageSport 145-pound title in an eliminator match against Lee Morrison at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash., on July 6. “They call him the ‘American Bulldog’ for a reason, so I’m sure he’ll get in my face and try to take me down and beat me up, which is fine with me,” Erosa said about Morrison. “I’m used to people trying to take me down and trying to beat me up or sub me.

Having won nine fights heading into this past February’s match-up with Mikhail Zayats in the second round of Bellator’s light-heavyweight tournament, Jacob Noe was riding high, maybe too high for his own good. Following a first-round submission loss to Zayats, Noe decided it was time to leave his native Tennessee and make the kind of move necessary to take his career to the next level. “I think I underestimated the guy,” said Noe of his loss to Zayats. “I just went in there without a game plan and tried to fight him and I think it backfired. He had a really good game plan and coaching. I kind of learned my lesson from that. “In Memphis I was kind of the only full-time fighter and didn’t have consistent training partners or experience to work with, so I made the change to Team Syndicate in Las Vegas.” Noe felt the change was a long time coming and the Zayats fight only helped crystalize the need to shake things up. “I always knew that beforehand I wasn’t growing as a fighter and I felt like I needed to make a change,” he said

Justin Gaethje Rocketing Up Lightweight Ranks, but Not Rushing a WSOF Title Fight

Upon making his major promotion debut at the World Series of Fighting 2 event in March, Colorado lightweight up-and-comer Justin Gaethje may have been the underdog to Dream and Strikeforce veteran Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, but he didn’t perform like it. Over the course of two and a half minutes, Gaethje did exactly what he set out to do and finished Cavalcante, putting himself on the map in the process. “I was excited for the opportunity to be on national television and fight a guy who was well-known and show the people that I really do belong with everybody else and that I can hold my own and that I’ve been working on my skills,” said Gaethje. “That was the game plan going in was to pressure him and make him feel uncomfortable, and that’s what I did.” While Gaethje made Cavalcante uncomfortable in their fight, he told MMAWeekly.com that he was very at ease at the event thanks to the way the WSOF treated him. “It’s an awesome company,” said Gaethje. “It’s obviously the biggest platform I’ve been on. They’re trying to do a big thing and they’re taking care of the fighters and that’s the most important part.” Gaethje’s return to the WSOF on Friday looks to be a match-up of fighters with equal skillsets as he is slated to take on former UFC fighter Brian “Bandit” Cobb.
