The U.K. invaded the U.S. at Global Warrior Challenge’s “British Invasion” on Saturday night at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. It was an entertaining night of fights that saw everything from slick submissions, to comeback wins, to vicious knockouts, to hard-fought decisions. In the end, it was a successful night for the U.K. competitors, as they took the majority of the bouts in the country vs. country format.

Bobby Lashley, Kendall Grove, Andre Winner among winners at GWC 1

It didn’t take long for Bobby Lashley to show exactly what he wanted to do on Saturday night. Lashley shot for a takedown 12 seconds into his main event fight against Matthew Larson at “Global Warrior Challenge: British Invasion.” He worked at it and finally secured it 35 seconds in. But though Larson popped back up quickly, he soon was back down, and with authority. Lashley slammed Larson to the canvas, then went to work with ground-and-pound, fended off a Larson kimura attempt, took his opponent’s back and secured a fairly easy rear-naked choke to end the fight in 98 seconds.

The man who once looked like he might become the next Brock Lesnar is now fighting on small shows like Saturday night’s Global Warrior Challenge event in Kansas City, Mo., where he’s not even the pay-per-view event’s headliner. What’s more, he’s small-timing it on purpose. Global Warrior Challenge finalizes ‘British Invasion’ fight card, broadcast team

Global Warrior Challenge holds its inaugural event on Saturday with a pay-per-view pitting Americans against fighters from the U.K. The 11-fight card has been finalized, and the promotion also has set its broadcast team for the show, featuring a pair of well-known veteran commentators and a former UFC champion. Ron Kruck, Karyn Bryant and Jens Pulver will be in the booth for “Global Warrior Challenge: British Invasion” on Saturday at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The event is available via pay-per-view for $29.95. Tickets also are available, ranging between $37 and $102, with the first fight set to go at 7:30 p.m. CT. The plan is for Global Warrior Challenge to host a series of country-vs.-country fight cards, though plans for future shows have not yet been announced

Kendall Grove looks at his record, and he really doesn’t care that much. Doesn’t mean he likes 17-13 staring back at him. But he borrows from the old fighter cliche of not fighting for a record, not fighting for money – but fighting because he’s a fighter. Except with Grove, you tend to believe him. Why else would he get back in the cage three weeks after his most recent fight? Love of the sport seems to be at the top of his list.
