Don’t expect to see the UFC in France any time soon, as the French Sports ministry has confirmed its ban on mixed martial arts, according to a report by ESPN . They love the suffering of the cyclists in the Alps during the Tour de France, but not the fisticuffs between fighters in a cage. The UFC has long been working towards holding an event in France, but they first have to overcome political hurdles that block MMA sanctioning in the country. Mixed martial arts has been accepted, if not legalized, in most major markets around the globe, but there are still pockets of dissent.

Forrest Griffin, Stephan Bonnar officially inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

LAS VEGAS – Six weeks after Dana White first announced his intentions , the UFC president has now officially inducted retired light heavyweights Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar into the UFC Hall of Fame. White and longtime executive producer of “The Ultimate Fighter” Craig Piligian today made the pair’s enshrinement official at a ceremony that took place at the promotion’s UFC Fan Expo Las Vegas 2013 inside Sin City’s Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Griffin and Bonnar were the light-heavyweight finalists on Season 1 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” During the live finale, the two engaged in one of the most memorable slugfests in MMA history, with Griffin coming out ahead with a 29-28 unanimous-decision win. That fight is largely credited with fueling the UFC’s meteoric rise in popularity around the globe, and White has long praised both fighters for their contributions to the company.

UFC veteran John Alessio has signed to fight for Bellator MMA . Alessio and Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney on Saturday announced the signing via Twitter. Alessio (34-16) is expected to fight at lightweight in the Bellator Season 9 tournament. After 15 years in the sport, Alessio has fought for nearly every major fight promotion in the world. Bellator is one of the last corners of the promotional globe where he has yet to compete. He left the WEC in early 2008, but went on to put together an 11-3 record fighting for the largest regional promotions in the U.S. and Canada before a stint in the UFC.
