The UFC’s next trip to Brazil in a month has seen a change to its preliminary card lineup – again. Sam Sicilia (11-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has been forced out of a featherweight bout against Felipe Arantes (15-5-1 MMA, 2-1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 28 and will be replaced by promotional newcomer Edimilson Souza (12-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The change was reported by Brazilian news outlet Globo , but has not yet been made official by the UFC. UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The six-fight main card airs on FOX Sports 1 as the third UFC event set for the new cable network.

Tim Kennedy vs. Vitor Belfort? Belfort would rather fight at heavyweight

A middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Tim Kennedy looks to have been a very real possibility – but according to a report out of Brazil, Belfort may have nixed things. Kennedy (16-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on Friday said on his official Twitter account that he would be heading to Brazil to fight Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC). The same night, UFC President Dana White said the bout was being put together . But according to a report from Brazilian news outlet Globo.com, through its Combate site, Belfort was offered the fight by UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta – but, through his wife and manager, Joana Prado, turned the bout down.

A battle between top flyweights Jussier “Formiga” da Silva and Joseph Benavidez has been agreed to for the as yet unannounced UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 event planned for September in Brazil. Brazilian website Globo.com first reported the bout. One of the most highly touted fighters entering the UFC’s 125-pound division, Formiga (15-2) fell short in his promotional debut, losing by TKO to John Dodson. He bounced back in may of this year, winning a unanimous decision over Chris Cariaso at UFC on FX 8 in Brazil.
