Ediane Gomes wants shot at featherweight title with Invicta FC 6 win over Brents

It seems like every time Ediane Gomes turns around, she’s dealing with a new opponent. Gomes (10-2) was supposed to meet Julia Budd at tonight’s Invicta FC 6 card. Then Charmaine Tweet stepped in for an injured Budd. And when Tweet had visa issues, she was replaced by Tamikka Brents (2-0). And to make matters just a little bit worse for tonight’s fight, the bout isn’t at featherweight – it’s at a 150-pound catchweight since Brents had such a short time to make the cut. (And even then, Brents came in at 155 pounds and the contract was adjusted to be a lightweight bout; Gomes came in a pound under the original bout agreement limit at 149 pounds at Friday’s weigh-ins.) Even before Gomes knew Brents was going to miss weight, she was unhappy fighting at 150 pounds. “I don’t want to fight at 150 pounds,” Gomes told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Just three days before its next event, Invicta Fighting Championships has seen another change to its card. Visa issues will force Canadian fighter Charmaine Tweet (4-3) out of her featherweight fight against Ediane Gomes (10-2) on the main card of Invicta FC 6. Stepping in to face Gomes will be Tamikka Brents (2-0). Promotion officials late Wednesday confirmed a report of the injury from MMARising.com . Invicta FC 6 takes place Saturday at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The event airs on pay-per-view in North America, and international viewers can watch via an online pay-per-view stream, each for $14.95

Invicta FC 6 Fight Card Loses Julia Budd and Sarah Schneider to Injury Bug

Invicta FC 6 has been bitten again by the injury bug. Featherweight Julia Budd and strawweight Sarah Schneider have been forced off of the July 13 fight card due to injuries. Invicta officials moved swiftly, however, and already have replacements in place for both fighters. Charmaine Tweet has stepped up to in place of Budd against Ediane Gomes, and Norma Center has agreed to take Schneider’s spot opposite Joanne Calderwood. Invicta FC 6 is slated for July 13 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City. It features a rematch between Cris Cyborg Justino and Marloes Coenen in the main event. The two will battle for the inaugural Invicta featherweight championship

Julia Budd (5-2) has suffered a neck injury that will knock her out of her featherweight bout against Ediane Gomes (10-2) at Invicta FC 6. Stepping in for Budd will be Charmaine Tweet (4-3). Promotion officials confirmed a report of the injury from MMARising.com . Invicta FC 6 takes place July 13 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The event airs on pay-per-view in North America, and international viewers can watch via an online pay-per-view stream, each for $14.95. Tweet, from Canada, will make her Invicta debut on a three-fight win streak.
