Vitor Belfort wants to fight for the UFC middleweight championship. Lyoto Machida wants a rematch with Phil Davis. Neither is going to get the fight that they want, but they may just get a fight against each other. UFC president Dana White wouldn’t mind putting the two in a fight together, especially if it were at 185 pounds, according to a report on UFC Tonight on Tuesday. In fact, White told UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani that he would make the fight the co-main event of UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks , the promotion’s 20th Anniversary event. UFC 167 takes place on Nov. 16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC middleweight champ Silva was dropped by Weidman on July 6 at UFC 162 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for his first loss in the UFC after a 16-0 start – and first knockout loss of his career. Weidman, as the new champ, will defend the title in a rematch against Silva in the same building he won the belt when the two headline UFC 168 on Dec. 28.

The official numbers are in and UFC 162 is officially a success… at least at the box office. The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday revealed the final tally for UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman confirming an attendance of 12,964 for gate receipts totaling $4,826,450. UFC 162 took place on July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and aired live on pay-per-view. There were 10,157 tickets sold for UFC 162, while company officials gave away 2,807 complimentary tickets. New UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman made the event one for the history books, capturing the belt by knocking out Anderson Silva in the second round. While many fellow pro fighters predicted that Weidman had the ability to win the fight, the way the fight ended came as a surprise to nearly everyone

UFC 162 earlier this month officially drew an attendance of 12,964 for a live gate of $4,826,450. Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Thursday released the figures to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Officials initially announced an estimated attendance of 12,399 for a live gate of $4.862 million. The live gate figure puts the event in third place for the UFC all-time at MGM Grand Garden Arena, trailing UFC 148 and UFC 66. UFC 162 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and the main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook. Weidman stopped Silva in the second round, stopping his 16-fight UFC win streak and 10 straight title defenses, but also becoming the first man to ever knock out the Brazilian pound-for-pound great. Count UFC commentators Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan among those who were left stunned by the way the fight went down. Dana White again blasts conspiracy theories, Sports Illustrated on UFC 162 claim

Responding again today to questions of whether the main event of UFC 162 was fixed, UFC President Dana White ranted at conspiracy theorists and then targeted one of the most respected institutions in sports reporting. “Who’s going to throw a fight by getting viciously knocked out?” the UFC executive ranted during an appearance on ESPN2′s “Highly Questionable.” “You know how stupid you’d have to be to even think that?” “Speaking of morons, Sports Illustrated had this group of people together, and they actually – Sports Illustrated! – had this panel saying, ‘Yeah, so I heard over the weekend, this fight might have been fixed.’ First of all, these people looked like they covered tennis – not fighting – and you could tell none of them even watched the fight.” White was referring to a panel of reporters that mused on whether Anderson Silva took a dive against the newly minted UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman during a segment on the web series SI Now, which covers hot topics in sports. “For somebody like Sports Illustrated – people are supposed to be credible journalists – to go out and say something that stupid when they never even watched the fight, it’s just a testament to how bad reporting is getting these days,” White continued. “It’s more about the shock factor than the fact factor.” It’s not the first time White has let expletives fly on the topic. Immediately after the pay-per-view event, which took place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena, he said people who thought that Weidman’s knockout was predetermined were “f—ing idiots.” Yet for several days, the topic hung in the air, which likely prompted the SI panel to address the situation. None of the journalists, however, were MMA reporters for the storied news outlet. Reps for SI.com could not be reached for comment. As White pointed out on ESPN2, if the fight was fixed, it would have been far smarter to have Silva tap to Weidman’s submission attempts prior to his fight-ending KO, and under better odds.

If there is one person who might have a right to be disappointed that new UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will rematch Anderson Silva in December’s UFC 168 main event, it’s Ronda Rousey . Rousey (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), the women’s bantamweight champion, was expected to headline the Dec. 28 pay-per-view event at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena against fellow ex-Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a rematch of their March 2012 contest, which Rousey ended in the first round with her vaunted armbar submission. Now, the women’s contest will take second billing, as Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) scored a shocking second-round knockout of Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) on July 6 that instantly earned their second fight must-see status.
