Bibiano Fernandes is the ONE FC interim 135-pound champion and there has been talk of him moving up to featherweight for a super fight with Shinya Aoki , but next on the agenda for the Brazilian appears to be a unification bout in October or November. “I will be fighting in fall. I’m not sure who I am fighting next, but considering I am the interim champion, I’m assuming that a fight with Soo Chul Kim would be my next step,” said Fernandes. I’ve watched his fights. He’s a tough guy, but I need to feel him in the ring to decide how good he is.” One swing of Chris Weidman’s left hand put proposed UFC superfights on hold, but ONE FC has a potentially huge match-up of its own with its two best pound-for-pound fighters, both capable of competing at featherweight. Aoki (33-6-1) is on track to make his 145-pound debut later this year, while Fernandes (14-3) has already proved he can compete in the division by beating four separate opponents to win the Dream Featherweight Grand Prix in 2009. A featherweight match-up between these two would truly be a battle for pound-for-pound supremacy in Asia and Fernandes is not ruling it out

He’s currently in the midst of working his way down to 205 pounds, planning to fight one more time at heavyweight before making the drop. And there seems to be no shortage of opponents for him before he finally debuts at light heavyweight. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that Fabricio Werdum asked him to fight Cormier after Werdum defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his most recent fight. Cormier said he was fine with that fight, but White may have other plans for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion. White told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports that he is currently in negotiations with Roy Nelson for a new contract. Nelson fulfilled his last contract with a loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161 in June. Road FC 13 is set for Oct. 12 in Gumi, South Korea. It will be headlined by a rematch between Yui Chul Nam and Takasuke Kume . The Korean beat the Japanese fighter by decision in the final of the lightweight Grand Prix in April, but the fight was not without controversy. After three rounds, the 155-pound title bout, which was the main event of Road FC 11, was declared a draw. The fight went to an extra round. If Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) wants a fight with Daniel Cormier (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), “DC” said he’s in. In fact, other than teammate and current UFC champion Cain Velasquez , he’s willing to fight anybody the organization throws at him. Cormier, a former Strikeforce grand prix winner who recently made his UFC debut with a victory over Frank Mir , is awaiting his next assignment. He’s cutting down to about 220 pounds for a final fight in his current division before a planned drop to light heavyweight. For the better part of the last decade, no two names in MMA have come to define heavyweight ground wizardry more than Brazilian’s Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . The two first met in the Pride 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix Quarterfinals in Saitama, Japan. That night, “Big Nog” earned a unanimous decision victory over the still-green Werdum. On Saturday night in Fortaleza, Brazil, the capacity crowd at Ginásio Paulo Sarasate were witness to one of the most anticipated rematches in heavyweight history, as Nogueira vs. Werdum 2 headlined the night’s UFC on Fuel TV 10 fight card. Round one opened with “Vai Cavalo” throwing pace-setting leg kicks to Nogueira’s lead leg. Almost immediately, Werdum looked to clinch with the pressuring Nogueira. Securing a takedown seconds into the opening frame, the two were immediately off to a ground battle. As Werdum had full mount, Nogueira scrambled, eventually regaining half guard. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira out at UFC 161, promotion seeks replacement

An ailing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from this month’s UFC 161 event, and UFC officials are currently seeking a replacement opponent for Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC). The scratch was first reported by GloboEsporte.com , and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since confirmed the change with multiple sources close to the promotion. GloboEsporte.com’s report cited a herniated disc as the reason for the withdrawal. A timetable for his return was not immediately established. Rua and Nogueira had been looking to renew a rivalry that began in 2005 when the two faced off in the quarterfinal round of PRIDE’s middleweight grand prix. So are the days when Nogueira was the unfinishable, unsubmittable zombie warrior of MMA’s heavyweight division.
