When asked about the greatest of all time, UFC CEO Dana White didn’t hesitate to answer. He said, ‘Jon Jones.’ In an interview with Lex Fridman , White discussed what made Jones the UFC GOAT, and why there’s no doubt about it. “He’s never been beat. He destroyed everybody at light heavyweight which at the time was the toughest weight class in the company, in the sport. Then he moved up to heavyweight.

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was able to do what no other 185-pound fighter could before him, hand former titleholder Anderson Silva his first UFC loss in seven years of competition when the two fought at UFC 162 on July 6. The 29-year-old New Yorker secured an early takedown in the title fight. He attempted two submissions and knocked out the greatest of all time with a left hook in the second frame. It was an amazing feat, but made more incredible by Weidman not being in top form for the fight. “I think I went out there and worked hard and went for everything that I felt. function not found Although many of his peers were saying that Chris Weidman could defeat Anderson Silva at UFC 162 on Saturday night in Las Vegas, not many picked him to knock Silva out cold, which is exactly what he did. Weidman took the fight to Silva from the opening bell, taking “the Spider” down and working his ground and pound attack, but couldn’t keep him there. Silva danced and taunted Weidman for much of the latter half of the opening frame, and again to start round two. Weidman remained patient, timed his attacks, and eventually caught Silva with a left hook, flooring the UFC’s longest reigning middleweight champion and finishing him off with strikes at the 1:18 mark of the second round. UFC welterweight champion and part-time Weidman training partner Georges St-Pierre was one of the fighters who was confident that Weidman could pull off the upset, but even he was surprised by the way it ended. “I predict Chris Weidman was going to win, but I didn’t think he was going to win the way that he won,” St-Pierre told PokerListings.com . It might have been a relatively slow news week in MMA, but with a UFC middleweight title fight looming and a mind-blowingly rad video of the behind-the-scenes madness from Nick Diaz ‘s WAR MMA making the Internet rounds, there’s still plenty to talk about in this week’s Twitter Mailbag. You can direct your own question to @BenFowlkesMMA on Twitter, or you can go old school and jot it down in a message in a bottle instead. Just saying though, I live in a land-locked state. * * * * Depends how he loses. If, say, Chris Weidman falls down on a spinning backfist attempt and gets finished seconds later, sure, maybe we’ll write that one off as a valuable learning experience. But if Anderson Silva goes into full Jedi mode and knocks him out while the two of them are standing toe-to-toe, that will probably become Exhibit Y in Silva’s ongoing argument for greatest of all time. What I’m more interested in is what the story will be if Weidman wins. Will MMA fans jump on his bandwagon and tow it all the way back to Long Island
