UFC middleweight contender Chris Weidman faces his toughest challenge to date when he takes on champion Anderson Silva at UFC 162 on July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The undefeated Weidman (9-0) earned his title shot by defeating Mark Munoz by knockout in his last outing. Following the Knockout of the Night victory over Munoz, Silva was reluctant to accept a fight with Weidman citing the 29-year-old’s lack of name value. Although frustrating at the time, Weidman is happy the match-up finally came to fruition. “Right after the Munoz fight it was frustrating to hear that they weren’t interested in me, but it is what it is. I guess when the UFC decided to make the fight happen, it happened. Everything happens for a reason. God had a plan and it worked out,” said Weidman on a UFC 162 media conference call. “I’m real excited for the fight, so I’m not really thinking back to the past and worrying about how frustrated I was. I kind of gave up on that and things kind of worked out well, so I’m happy,” he added

Former UFC champion Frankie Edgar will do something he hasn’t done in years when he faces Charles Oliveira in a featherweight match-up at UFC 162 on July 6 in Las Vegas. He’ll compete in a non-title fight for the first time since 2009, and hopes a win over Oliveira will move him closer to another championship bout. “One step closer toward a title shot,” said Edgar when asked what a win over Oliveira would mean. Oliveira (16-3, 1 No Contest) is 2-1 as a featherweight and nine of his 16 wins have come by submission. “I think he’s a dangerous fighter, long and rangy with slick submissions,” Edgar said about his opponent in a chat on UFC.com . “I guess his slick submission game might be the biggest threat.” Edgar made his featherweight debut at UFC 156 on Feb. 2, losing to champion Jose Aldo by decision. His speed and footwork was an advantage for him in the lightweight division, and he doesn’t believe anyone at 145 pounds is going to have a speed advantage over him

If you answered Evans, you're right. The former champ and psychology major is far more susceptible to swings in sentiment than his former Olympian counterpart, and that could be as big a factor as any in deciding whether the winner of a Saturday headliner moves on to a future title shot – or hits the glass ceiling.
FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – Why a rash of submissions in the cradle of jiu-jitsu would come as a surprise is anyone's guess, but Erick Silva wanted to make sure he didn't miss the party. In the night's ninth fight, Silva scored the card's sixth submission with an armbar stoppage of Jason High just 71 seconds into the bout. The sixth submission of the card tied a UFC record. The welterweight bout was part of today's UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. It aired on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook. Standout wrestler High went for a takedown quickly in the first round. But Silva sprawled his way out of it and after a furious ground scramble, he was able to wrap around to take High's back. Silva looked like he might go after a triangle choke from High's back, and High tried to power out of it by getting back to all fours.
