Dave Herman (21-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) is set for his UFC 162 bout against Gabriel Gonzaga (14-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) after passing a pre-fight drug test ordered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. NSAC Executive Director confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the heavyweight passed a 10-panel test for a variety of banned substances, including marijuana, which landed him in hot water in previous bouts. Two positive tests for the drug were brought front and center during an NSAC meeting on Monday in Las Vegas, which prompted the commission to order a same-day drug test for Herman and require he pass it in order to obtain a conditional, one-fight license for Saturday’s pay-per-view event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Earlier this year, Herman went into rehab as part of a suspension issued by the UFC, which flagged him for pot following his submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153 this past October. He passed the program and was subsequently booked to meet Gonzaga. During the NSAC meeting, Herman said he hadn’t used the drug since this past November and had turned his life around

Judging by body language alone, it didn’t seem like she was trying to tell him what a good job he was doing against Stipe Miocic in Saturday’s UFC 161 co-main event. Can you blame her? Nelson bet big on himself when he spurned the UFC’s offer of a contract extension and opted instead to fight the last fight of his current deal without a secure plan for his future in place. If he won, he could up his asking price and stick it to UFC President Dana White all at the same time – two of his favorite pastimes of late. It’s just that, by the time the second round had ended and a depleted Nelson had staggered back to his corner, it seemed increasingly unlikely that his gamble was going to pay off

Brian Bowles fails UFC 160 drug test due to elevated T/E levels

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has temporarily suspended Brian Bowles after saying he tested positive for elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone levels following his loss at UFC 160. NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the bantamweight came back with an T/E ratio of more than 20-to-1. The commission’s official limit is 6-to-1. Kizer said Bowles hadn’t applied for a therapeutic-use exemption for testosterone-replacement therapy prior to the event. The fighter declined comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com today
