Dantas originally had the opportunity to take the lead in Bellator title-fight wins, but Higo’s inability to make weight derailed his plans. In the Spike-televised opener of the event, which took place at Budapest Sports Arena in Hungary, Taylor (1-3 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) clearly wasn’t lacking confidence, and a pre-fight dance and pelvic thrust proved he was feeling confident. Bellator 177 weigh-ins are in the books, and the night’s planned five-round headliner is now a three-round non-title fight. Bellator officials today announced that challenger Leandro Higo (17-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) missed weight, registering 139 pounds for the planned bantamweight title fight, and will now face champ Eduardo Dantas (19-4 MMA, 9-2 BMMA) in a three-round non-title affair. Higo stepped in for an injured Darrion Caldwell on one month’s notice. His camp said the Mohegan Department of Athletic Regulation, which is overseeing the event, wouldn’t allow Higo a second trip to the scales

There has been a shift at the top of the card for Bellator’s return to Hungary and a promotional newcomer will get an instant title shot. With challenger Darrion Caldwell (10-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) out with an undisclosed injury against bantmaweight champ Eduardo Dantas (19-4 MMA, 9-1 BMMA), Leandro Higo (17-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) has signed with the promotion and will challenge for the belt at Bellator 177. Bellator officials announced the change today, as well as other matchups for the card. The change first was reported by MMAFighting.com . The lineup for this week’s Bellator 169 card, which is the promotion’s debut in Ireland, has undergone a late change. Bruna Vargas (2-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) has been forced out of her fight against Helen Harper (4-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) with an injury, which takes that bout off the main card in Dublin, the promotion today announced. Harper will be paid her show money, the promotion said. In its place, a new women’s featherweight bout is set for the main card. Sinead Kavanagh (3-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will take on Elina Kallionidou (5-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at the event.

With Paul Redmond (10-6 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) out with an injury, as previously reported, Daniel Weichel now will face fellow featherweight Brian Moore (9-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). And with Bruna Ellen (2-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) out, Helen Harper (4-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) now will take on another Bruna – Bruna Vargas (2-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA). In addition, the event has added a bantamweight bout between Shay Walsh (14-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Luiz Tosta (9-2-1 MMA, 0-0-1 BMMA), which will open up the main card on Spike.
