SEATTLE – UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard wanted to send a message by beating Mac Danzig at UFC on FOX 8. Now, after knocking out “The Ultimate Fighter 6″ winner in highlight-reel fashion, he wants to keep busy by fighting at UFC 166, which takes place Oct. 19 in his former hometown of Houston. Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC) expressed no preference of opponents and told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), “I don’t care who I fight. As long as they put them in front of me, I’ll fight them.” Before he returns to his new training home at Denver’s Grudge Training Center, where he spent three months preparing for Danzig (21-11-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC), “The Young Assassin” will fly to Florida to reunite with his wife for a week. He’ll then fly to his native New Orleans to spend two weeks with his sister, who’s preparing to undergo brain surgery. Guillard stressed the importance of family in his impressive turnaround. This past week, he missed his grandmother’s funeral to complete his training camp for UFC on FOX 8.

Chris Weidman Coach Believes Anderson Silva is Going to Have a “Bad Night” in Rematch

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman ended Anderson Silva’s seven-year reign atop the middleweight division at UFC 162 on July 6 by knockout. The two are set to rematch on Dec. 28 at UFC 168, and Weidman’s coach, Ray Longo, thinks it’s going to be another bad night for Silva. “This guy had a highlight reel that would scare the crap out of anybody. Now, knowing that he can knock this guy out – you’ve seen it in boxing a hundred times, guys don’t come back from that type of knockout. On top of that, the guy is 40 or 39 or whatever he is. I don’t see it,” Longo told MMAWeekly.com content partner Shameless Radio about the rematch. Oliveira (16-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Edgar (15-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) co-headline the July 6 pay-per-view event, which takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. After falling short to champ Jose Aldo after a move to featherweight, Edgar looks to regroup against one of the division’s more entertaining fighters. Although Oliveira has won just four of his seven UFC bouts, the Brazilian has picked up four fight-night bonuses and put together an impressive highlight reel. In the above video, you can see Oliveira fight Darren Elkins in his 2010 UFC debut, which resulted in his first “Submission of the Night” bonus.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey tries to emulate her favorite fighter, Fedor Emelianenko , in her fights. “My favorite fighter to watch ever I would say is Fedor Emelianenko,” Rousey said during a Facebook chat sponsored by Metro PCS on Wednesday. Emelianenko held the Pride FC heavyweight title from 2003 to 2006. In an eight-year span, the Russian strung together an unprecedented 28-fight winning streak. He’s widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight of all time. “He’s always going to be my favorite. It was the first highlight reel I ever saw of MMA. I loved his style and how he came from a Judo-Sambo background, and I really try to emulate his style every time that I fight,” said Rousey. Emelianenko retired from fighting on June 12, 2012 following a first-round knockout win over former UFC heavyweight contender Pedro Rizzo in St. Petersburg, Russia. On one hand, Canadian light-heavyweight Ryan Jimmo believes he made a mistake in fighting James Te Huna at UFC on FUEL TV 7. On the other, he believes it would have been a mistake not to fight. Jimmo (17-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who on Saturday meets Igor Pokrajac (25-9 MMA, 4-4 UFC) at UFC 161, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he “literally didn’t have a leg to stand on” when he fought the Australiian this past February following a career-highlight knockout of Anthony Perosh that catapulted him to stardom. After three rounds with Te Huna, Jimmo lost a unanimous decision and was forced back to the drawing board. “I acted like an amateur by choosing to go ahead,” he said. “I’ve done it before and come out on top. Not that night. Te Huna’s got a hard head.
