The promotion has released nine fighters from its roster, including three former headliners. A source close to the promotion informed MMA Junkie of the roster cuts, but asked to remain anonymous because Bellator officials have not made an official announcement.

In the Spike-televised headliner of the event, which took place at WinStar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Okla., Julia Budd (11-2 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) edged challenger Arlene Blencowe (10-7 MMA, 3-3 BMMA) via majority decision to defend her title. The close bout, which ended with little action in the later rounds, resulted in 46-49, 48-47 and 49-46 scores – and more than a few boo birds who thought Blencowe deserved the victory. While Bellator 189’s prelims ended with some spectacular finishes, the rest of the main card all went to decisions.

After missing weight and losing a main-event fight earlier this year, Chidi Njokuani is opting for a change in weight class for his next fight. Njokuani (17-5 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) will move from welterweight to middleweight to take on Hisaki Kato (8-2 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) at Bellator 189, which takes place Dec. 1 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The jiu-jitsu ace was outpointed on the scorecards by Hisaki Kato in a forgettable affair at Bellator 170. Kato (8-2 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) and Gracie (3-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) did almost nothing of substance during their 15-minute showdown, but in the end Kato was awarded for his slightly better offense and earned a unanimous decision victory.
