Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer informed MMAWeekly.com of the WSOF 3 drug test results on Monday. World Series of Fighting 3 drug tests come back clean

All 18 fighters who competed at this month’s World Series of Fighting 3 card tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the drug-testing results from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the June 14 event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The main event saw former UFC fighters Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman meeting in a welterweight bout. It was Fitch’s debut with the promotion after being unexpectedly released by the UFC earlier this year. Burkman clipped Fitch with a punch early in the fight in an exchange, knocking him off his feet. Burkman immediately pounced him him and locked in a standing guillotine choke. He dropped to his back and held the choke until Fitch went limp – when he released the hold, stopping the fight himself. The fight has become controversial because of referee Steve Mazzagatti not seeing that Fitch was out and stopping the fight himself.

There has been quite a bit of talk about referee Steve Mazzagatti’s performance during the Josh Burkman and Jon Fitch main event bout at World Series of Fighting 3 on June 15 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The fight was brief, but it was the finish that led to a firestorm of discussion that includes the likes of UFC president Dana White , who often takes Mazzagatti’s refereeing skills to task, and John McCarthy, who is one of the pioneering referees in the sport of mixed martial arts. Burkman rocked Fitch early with punches, but quickly found a guillotine choke opportunity there for the taking. He took it.

The head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission says criticism of officials won’t influence future assignments, to the contrary of UFC President Dana White’s recent comments. This past weekend following UFC 161, White blasted referee Steve Mazzagatti’s officiating in the World Series of Fighting 3 main event between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman , saying Fitch’s safety was endangered when Mazzagatti failed to notice the fighter going unconscious from a guillotine choke early in the fight. (watch the Burkman vs. Fitch fight video .) At the same time, White lamented that his continued targeting of Mazzagatti would ensure the referee would continue to get big fights. “The Nevada State Athletic Commission will keep this guy around until he seriously hurts somebody,” White said to a small group of reporters following a post-event news conference for UFC 161, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended. “That guy is dangerous.” Fitch found himself caught in the chokehold after a brief exchange of punches early in the fight, which took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and was overseen by the NSAC. As Fitch staggered to the canvas, Burkman secured the submission and fell to his back. Fitch reached to free himself, but then went unconscious.

LAS VEGAS – Josh Burkman ‘s (26-9) comeback is real. “The People’s Warrior” earned his fifth straight victory with a shocking first-round technical-submission win over onetime UFC title challenger Jon Fitch (24-6-1). The rematch served as the main event of Friday’s World Series of Fighting 3 event, which took place at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and aired on NBC Sports Network. Burkman attacked from the opening bell, rocking Fitch with an early flurry and sending his opponent to the floor. From there, he pounded away before locking in a guillotine choke and falling to his back. Burkman arched his back and squeezed, letting up only when he felt Fitch go limp – and well before Steve Mazzagatti was looking to call off the fight.
