Demian Maia vs. Jake Shields targeted for fall UFC show

A welterweight bout between Demian Maia (18-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and Jake Shields (28-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will be part of an upcoming fall UFC show. Although an exact date hasn’t been determined, verbal agreements are in place, according to FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight.” The recently rumored bout features two 170-pound grapplers coming off recent victories. Since a move down to welterweight, former middleweight title challenger Maia has won three consecutive bouts. The Brazilian, who made the drop after a decision loss to now-champ Chris Weidman in early 2012, has defeated Dong Hyun Kim (TKO via injury), Rick Story (submission) and Jon Fitch (decision). Maia was expected to fight Josh Koscheck this weekend at UFC 163 but was forced off the card when his opponent suffered an injury

function not found An injury has forced UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck off the UFC 163 card and out of the scheduled fight with Demian Maia . UFC officials announced the news on Friday, but no further details about the nature of the injury were provided. Koscheck (17-7) has lost back-to-back fights and was looking to rebound against Maia on the August 3 fight card. Maia (18-4) was looking to extend his winning streak to four consecutive fights. Since dropping down from the middleweight division, Maia has won three fights in a row as a welterweight with wins over Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story and Jon Fitch . Maia has been removed from the card, and it is unknown how long Koscheck will be sidelined. UFC 163 takes place at HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. An injury has forced former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine out of his scheduled UFC on Fox 8 bout with Robbie Lawler . Siyar Bahadurzada has stepped up on short notice to replace Saffiedine against Lawler. UFC officials made the announcement on Tuesday. Bahadurzada (21-5-1) is a former Shooto middleweight champion. He was riding a six-fight winning streak when he made his UFC debut on April 14, 2012, against Paulo Thiago . The heavy-handed puncher knocked Thiago out in 42 seconds. His seven-fight winning streak came to an end when he met Dong Hyun Kim in his next outing on March 3. Kim utilized his superior wrestling to take Bahadurzada down and keep him there throughout the course of their three-round fight. Lawler (21-9-1) returned to the UFC and the welterweight division at UFC 157 in impressive fashion, knocking out Josh Koscheck in the first round. UFC on Fox 8 takes place on June 27 at the Key Arena in Seattle. The event is headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Moraga . Former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is the latest victim of the injury bug, and fellow welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada (21-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has stepped as an injury replacement and now fights Robbie Lawler (10-9 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at UFC on FOX 8. UFC officials today announced the switch. UFC on FOX 8 takes place July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. Bahadurzada vs. Lawler is expected to maintain its main-card slot. Bahadurzada looks to rebound from a UFC on FUEL TV 8 decision loss to Dong Hyun Kim earlier this year
