Julia Avila managed to cram a range of emotions into just an 18-second post-fight update. However, there’s no doubting her toughness – or sense of humor. At Friday’s Invicta FC 29 event, Avila (3-1) suffered a first-round TKO loss – and a badly brolken finger – to fellow bantamweight Marciea Allen (7-2) after a bone snapped and popped through the skin on the ring finger of her left hand. We shared some photos of the injury (warning: they’re kind of gross) on Saturday, and later that day, Avila shared the following video (via Instagram ): “Hey guys, I’m in the hospital,” the 29-year-old said in the video. “I’m doing fine. If it were up to me, they would just cut off the finger, and I would’ve keep fighting

In a bantamweight bout, Julia Avila (3-1) suffered a first-round TKO loss to Marciea Allen (7-2) after suffering the broken digit . Photographer Dave Mandel captured the image after Avila checked a kick, circled, looked down, and realized the ring finger on her left hand had broken, sending a bone protruding the skin. It brought about a halt to Friday’s bout, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo.

Former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman is now an Invicta FC title holder, as well. Kaufman scored an impressive submission win over a previously undefeated Katharina Lehner (7-1) in the main event of Friday’s Invicta FC 29 event, which streamed live on UFC Fight Pass from Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. The two fighters wasted little time in exchanging at the start of the fight, moving quickly to the pocket and trading punches in close range. Kaufman’s strikes reddened her opponent’s face almost immediately, but Lehner refused to back down, driving forward and moving inside while continuing to trade.

Former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman (19-4) meets undefeated German contender Katharina Lehner (7-0) in the Invicta FC 29 headliner, with the winner taking home Invicta’s vacant bantamweight title, which was previously owned by Yana Kunitskaya (10-4) before she migrated to the UFC. The nine-bout lineup for May’s Invicta FC 29 card is now nearly complete and includes the addition of a few recognizable names. Headlined by a women’s bantamweight matchup between Sarah Kaufman and Katharina Lehner, Invicta FC 29 takes place May 4 at Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. The full card streams live on UFC Fight Pass. The night’s key additions include Sweden’s Pannie Kianzad (8-3) vs. Brazilian newcomer Bianca Daimoni (7-2), as well as two-time UFC veteran Pearl Gonzalez (7-3), who looks to build off her successful Invicta FC debut against Barbara Acioly (4-2) in a flyweight contest. The lone slot on the spot yet to be filled comes in the night’s opening contest, where 18-year-old Croation prospect Adriana Vukovich (0-0) takes on an opponent yet to be named.
