Following three straight losses, and four setbacks in his past five fights, the UFC has cute ties with Ivan Menjivar . Menjivar (25-12 MMA, 4-5) has been released from the promotion less than three weeks after his most recent loss, a decision defeat at the hands of Hatsu Hioki in Macau earlier this month.

MACAU – His knack for starting strong and fading late nearly wrecked him, but Hatsu Hioki (27-7-2 MMA, 3-3 UFC) survived late trouble to score a unanimous-decision win over Ivan Menjivar (25-12 MMA, 4-5 UFC). The featherweight bout opened the main card of today’s TUF China Finale event at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass. Menjivar, who moved up from the bantamweight division, faced a much bigger 145-pounder and initially struggled against the Japanese fighter. But he rebounded in the third round for a rally that fell just short.

Currently ranked among the top 135-pound fighters in the world, Faber is on the cusp of a title shot after back-to-back submissions of Ivan Menjivar and Scott Jorgensen in February and April of this year. With an impressive resume under his belt, one would think “The California Kid” had intentions of facing the highest profile opponents possible in order to move up the ladder. Instead, Faber took a fight against someone looking to take what he’s got and doesn’t offer much in return.
