Joe Giannetti only got one chance to showcase his skills inside the UFC cage and is hell-bent on making it back for another. Saturday, Giannetti (16-5-1) notched a highlight-reel finish for the second straight fight when he put opponent Jacob Bohn (14-12) to sleep in 27 seconds with a suffocating ninja choke. The fight co-headlined Cage Titans 65 in Plymouth, Mass., and was for the promotion’s lightweight title. Giannetti achieved champ-champ status; he won the promotion’s welterweight title with a jumping head kick of Pat Casey in November. The show, which streamed live on YouTube instead of airing on its usual AXS TV home, marked the Rhode Island-based promotion’s New York debut, and the grandson of an infamous mob boss was one of the key attractions. At The Space at Westbury in Westbury, N.Y., Gotti III (2-0), the grandson of New York mobster John Gotti, moved to 2-0 with a 32-second TKO victory over Eddie Haws (0-2). For the first time, CES MMA will set up shop in the state of New York, and there already are some intriguing names on the card. “CES MMA: Forte vs. Secor” will take place May 4 at The Space at Westbury in Westbury, N.Y., the promotion today announced. CES MMA 44 video highlights: Matt Bessette wants to know if the UFC is watching

Filed under: AXS TV Fights , News , Videos Matt Bessette did enough damage in the CES MMA 44 main event on Friday that a doctor took a look at Rey Trujillo after 10 minutes and shut the whole thing down. It wasn’t a walk in the park, necessarily, for Bessette (22-7), but the CES MMA featherweight champ kept his title against the gritty Trujillo (21-19) in the AXS TV-broadcast main event from Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I. Then Bessette wanted to know why UFC President Dana White and matchmaker Sean Shelby aren’t blowing up his phone yet. Maybe they will be after Friday night. Also on the card, Greg Rebello (22-7) had difficulty putting Kevin Ray Sears (4-3) with his hands, so he just choked him out instead.

CES MMA 44 results: Matt Bessette keeps featherweight title after doctor’s stoppage

Reynaldo Trujillo gave a valiant effort in what was his second fight in a two week stretch. But he didn’t have enough to overcome CES MMA featherweight champion Matt Bessette , succumbing to a doctor’s stoppage after the second round in Friday’s CES MMA 44 headliner. Bessette (22-7) had to empty the tank in order to put Trujillo (21-19) into position for the fight to be stopped, but his striking game eventually inflicted enough punishment to force the doctor to wave off the action in the AXS TV-televised bout at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.

Sean Soriano (9-5), a Rhode Island native, will take on Jacob Bohn (5-3) in a featherweight bout at CES MMA 44. Promotion officials announced the new booking today. CES MMA 44 takes place May 12 at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., with a main card on AXS TV. In the main event, Matt Bessette puts his featherweight title on the line against Jeremy Spoon.
