While UFC 203 (and RFA 43, Titan FC 41 and Cage Warriors 78) are getting the spotlight this weekend, two UFC vets hit the regional circuit on Friday night and produced a rather quick bout. At a Fight Night At The Island event in Minnesota, local product Jacob Volkmann (19-7) was looking for his fifth win in seven fights since his 2013 UFC release. However, Ben Saunders (20-7-2), who was fighting for the first time since a January loss to Patrick Cote, played spoiler.

Legacy FC 51 It wasn’t supposed to happen that way, but Manuel Vazquez had other plans. Vazquez (8-1) took Friday’s bantamweight title fight against Ricardo Lucas Ramos (8-1) on three weeks’ notice when Augusto Mendes got a call from the UFC. Ramos, an unbeaten Brazilian, had been tearing through opponents – and was a heavy favorite to win Legacy FC’s vacant 135-pound belt.

Augusto Mendes, Ricardo Ramos vie for title Thomas Almeida vacated at Legacy FC 51

The Legacy FC bantamweight title that Thomas Almeida left behind when he signed with the UFC will be up for grabs when the promotion heads to Minnesota in February. Augusto Mendes (5-0) will meet Ricardo Ramos (8-0) for the 135-pound strap in the main event of Legacy FC 51. Almeida vacated the belt in 2014, and after signing with the UFC he has remained unbeaten at 20-0 – including 4-0 in the UFC with fight-night bonuses in each bout. The card will take place Feb.

Legacy FC 43 heads to Minnesota with Krantz-Larson title fight, Volkmann-Ottow

Brock Larson Legacy FC makes its Minnesota debut on July 17, and a title fight headlines the card. Legacy FC 43 takes place at Grand Casino Hinckley Hotel in Hinckley, Minn., and the main card airs on AXS TV. Legacy FC promoter/owner Mick Maynard today confirmed with MMAjunkie that Derrick Krantz (16-8) and Brock Larson (38-9) will headline the event and fight for the organization’s vacant welterweight title. Krantz, a former Bellator fighter who’s spent the bulk of his recent career with Legacy FC, looks for his third straight win. Most recently, the 27-year-old posted back-to-back submission wins over former UFC fighters Kyle Bradley and Daniel Roberts. He meets another UFC vet in Larson, a 37-year-old Minnesotan who’s won seven of his past nine fights while fighting for organizations such as BattleGrounds MMA, ONE FC and KOTC.
