LFA returns from coronavirus shutdown with four July events in South Dakota

It’s not exactly “Fight Island,” but LFA will return to action in July after four months away due to the coronavirus pandemic with a set of shows in South Dakota. On four consecutive Fridays, from July 10-31, LFA, which last held an event on March 6, will run fights at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

Friday’s LFA 82 event featured one of the craziest slam knockouts in recent memory. In the night’s co-main event, undefeated featherweight Jake Childers kept his perfect record intact with a first-round victory over Nate Togbah Richardson at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn. The bout streamed live on UFC Fight Pass. While the result wasn’t necessarily a surprise, the way it ended certainly was intriguing. Working from the clinch in the opening frame, Childers (8-0) wrapped the body and elevated Richardson (7-2) in the air before slamming him to the canvas.

LFA 82 heads to Minnesota with vacant light heavyweight title fight on tap

The first LFA title fight of the decade has been booked. Alex Polizzi and Jamal Pogues collide for the vacant light heavyweight strap at LFA 82, the promotion announced on Saturday. The event takes place Feb. 21 at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn. It will stream on UFC Fight Pass

LFA 70 video highlights: Headliner ends prematurely, but Lemminger delivers in co-main thriller

With a disqualification in the night’s main event , LFA 70 ended on a bit of a sour note, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of thrills along the way. Mark Lemminger (9-1) proved victorious in a rousing tussle with fellow welterweight Isaac Steele (7-2) in the co-feature of Friday’s LFA 70 event, which aired on AXS TV from The Sylvee in Madison, Wisc. A featherweight feature also ended in wild fashion , with Jake Childers (7-0) taking a 13-second TKO victory over Jamey Simmons (4-2). Brett Martin will fight for the LFA heavyweight title, though he certainly wasn’t pleased with his path to the booking. Martin (8-1) was granted a victory when opponent Renan Ferreira (5-2) was disqualified for multiple illegal blows to the back of the head in the main event of Friday’s LFA 70 event, which aired on AXS TV from The Sylvee in Madison, Wisc. Ferreira was the aggressor to start, wild as he threw out thunderous low kicks and powerful punches, as well. With Martin rocked early, Ferreira looked to finish the fight on the floor, only to find himself on the wrong end of a two-point deduction from referee Rob Hinds for illegal shots to the back of the head

Losing in MMA always sucks – it means you get half of your paycheck and beat up in front of your friends and family. But featherweight Jamey Simmons found a particularly difficult way to suffer a loss at Friday’s LFA 70 event, getting knocked out choked out in the span of just 13 seconds. Facing an undefeated Jake Childers (7-0), Simmons (4-2) looked to shoot just after the opening bell. Unfortunately for him, “The Afro Samurai” ducked into a knee that saw him stunned and stagger to the floor

LFA 61 results: Brendan Allen defends belt with brutal decision win

Brendan Allen (11-3) couldn’t get a finish in his first LFA middleweight title defense, but he was certainly dominant over the course of a five-round shellacking of Moses Murrietta (8-2). The bout served as the main event of Friday’s LFA 61, which aired on AXS TV from Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn. Allen controlled the fight from the start, and Murrietta simply had no answer for a dominant wrestling game and non-stop ground-and-pound.
