James Thompson positive for steroid drostanolone following Bellator 191

Veteran heavyweight James Thompson tested positive for the steroid drostanolone following his first round submission loss to Philip De Fries at Bellator 191. As a result, Thompson (20-17 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) is suspended for one year – retroactive to the Dec. 15 event – and fined $2,000

Bellator’s final event of the year went down Friday with Bellator 191, which took place at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, and aired via tape-delay on Spike. Former UFC title challenger Michael McDonald (18-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) made a successful promotional debut in the main event, outpointing Peter Ligier (8-2-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) to a unanimous decision for his first win in more than 17 months. In the main event, Michael McDonald (18-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) fought for the first time in 17 months and took a fairly easy unanimous decision from Peter Ligier (8-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA). But it may have come at a cost. McDonald spent much of the third round on the ground on top of Ligier, he said because he believed he broke his hand in Round 2. And in the co-feature, former UFC women’s strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau (9-6 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) finally got back in the win column

Bellator’s ‘Kimbo Slice’ settles with Texas commission following failed steroid test

Two months in advance of his Bellator 158 rematch with James Thompson , Kevin “ Kimbo Slice ” Ferguson has settled with Texas’ athletic commission following a failed steroid test. Slice agreed to a $2,500 fine and the revocation of his Texas fight license, which originally was slated to expire on March 4, 2017. He also agreed to waive his right to a hearing and is expected to remain in compliance with “all laws and rules” of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the Texas Combative Sports Program
