Johnny Case will get all of his PFL 7 money and a spot in the PFL playoffs without throwing a punch. The PFL canceled Case’s (23-6) bout with Jason High today after High (21-8) missed weight for Friday’s event. High came in at 160.2 pounds, or 4.2 pounds over the lightweight non-title limit

A lightweight bout at Thursday’s PFL 7 event will determine the eighth and final participant in the Professional Fighters League’s inaugural 155-pound playoff. PFL officials informed MMAjunkie that with Brian Foster unable to get licensed by the athletic commission and Ramsey Nijem unable to gain clearance from a medical suspension, Johnny Case (23-6) vs. Jason High (21-8) will officially determine the final participant in PFL’s eight-man championship bracket. PFL 7 takes place Thursday at Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City. As with all PFL broadcasts, the night’s opening bouts stream live on Facebook, while the show closes out on NBCSN. Case was brought in as an alternate and now makes his PFL debut

This card originally was set to feature a main-event matchup between Brian Foster and Natan Schulte , but that bout was scratched when an illness forced Foster to withdraw. Instead, Jason High faces Schulte in the headlining contest. High is in a desperate situation at PFL 5, having lost his first regular-season lightweight fight via controversial stoppage. Schulte enters PFL 5 with three regular-season points thanks to the unanimous-decision win he picked up at PFL 2. Lightweights aren’t the only fighters competing in their second, and final, regular season bout at PFL 5.

Instead, High (21-7) will fight Schulte in his place in the second lightweight regular-season bout for each fighter. Schulte has three points in the regular season from a win over Chris Wade at PFL 2 in June. High lost his fight to Efrain Escudero at the same event, so has no points

Efrain Escudero says Jason High tapped out, ‘overreacted’ to controversial PFL 2 fight

CHICAGO – Efrain Escudero fails to see the major controversy to the ending of his fight with Jason High at Tuesday’s PFL 2 event. The lightweight bout between Escudero (30-13) and High (21-7), which took place at Chicago Theater in Chicago and aired on NBCSN following prelims on Facebook, ended when Escudero applied a guillotine choke that caused the referee to intervene and call off the fight 35 seconds into Round 3 – despite High not clearly tapping out. High was immediately enraged by the stoppage, but reps from Illinois’ athletic commission stand behind referee Josh Stewart’s decision to end the fight when he did, and said there is no ground for an appeal. Escudero said his opponent tapped, and feels High went overboard with his response to the outcome. “I think he overreacted a little bit,” Escudero told MMAjunkie after the fight. “This is the sport.
