LONDON – It wasn’t pretty, but Britain’s Phil De Fries made good on his promise to defend his KSW heavyweight title on home soil at KSW 50, grinding out a split-decision victory after five grueling rounds at the SSE Arena, Wembley. De Fries and Brazilian challenger Luis Henrique spent the large majority of the opening three rounds seemingly locked together in an endless clinch as they battled for grappling supremacy in a largely uneventful first half of the contest. With both men clearly fatigued from three rounds of grapple-heavy action, the two heavyweights turned to their striking in the fourth, but neither man’s strikes carried the power needed to make the breakthrough. It meant the bout went to the fifth and final round as De Fries, looking marginally the fresher man, pushed the pace in the final five minutes as the contest went all the way to the final bell. And when the judges’ scores were tallied, it was De Fries who ran out the victor via split decision as the Brit secured his third successive title defense. Radcliffe’s delayed physical reaction made for a confusing sight at first, but it soon became clear that he was seriously disoriented. Bellator’s return to Israel later this month has seen a change to a middleweight fight on the main card. Anatoly Tokov (25-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) has suffered an undisclosed injury and his out of his fight against John Salter (14-3 MMA, 4-0 BMMA), a Bellator official today told MMAjunkie. Stepping in for Tokov will be Jason Radcliffe (12-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) on short notice. Bellator 188 takes place Nov. 16 at Menora Mivtachim Arena Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel. Piechota (9-0-1) stopped Jason Radcliffe (11-3) with strikes in that short span to claim the vacant title in the headlining bout of Cage Warriors 85, which took place Saturday at O2 Academy in Bournemouth, England. The main card streamed live on UFC Fight Pass. After a brief feeling-out process, Radcliffe looked to press the action but was tagged by a perfect counter left and crumbled to the floor. Piechota seized the moment, jumping on top of his fallen foe and unleashing a barrage of punches that forced the stoppage in the opening minute. Stapleton cruises, Chadwick takes home a leg In the night’s lightweight co-feature, Martin Stapleton (19-5) cruised to a one-sided decision win over Donovan Desmae (9-4) It was Desmae who looked sharp to start, landing a few shots on the feet in the early going.
