Their kickboxing matches, both won by Pereira , seem like they took place during a different lifetime on an alternate planet. While so much has changed, a lot has remained the same. Adesanya and Pereira still rely heavily on the discipline that got them to the big dance, a UFC middleweight title fight at Madison Square Garden. Less than two months after making a successful MMA debut, Jason Wilnis already has his next assignment on tap. Wilnis, a kickboxing veteran who holds a controversial unanimous decision win over Israel Adesanya from January 2017, will look to continue building early career momentum in MMA with his sophomore contest in the sport. Wilnis (1-0) is set to take on Mohamed Ghalab (6-2) in a middleweight main event at Levels Fight League 3, which takes place Oct. 10 in Amsterdam and streams live on http://www.LFLMMA.com and FITEtv.

Jason Wilnis ’ first venture into MMA was a success. Wilnis, a kickboxing veteran who holds a controversial unanimous decision win over Israel Adesanya from January 2017, put on the MMA gloves for his first professional bout on Sunday, and all went well.

Jason Wilnis is the latest kickboxer entering MMA who has history with UFC champion Israel Adesanya . Wilnis beat Adesanya in a somewhat controversial unanimous decision at GLORY 37 in January 2017, defending his 187-pound title in the process. It was Adesanya’s second-to-last kickboxing fight, and shortly thereafter he committed full time to MMA, rising the ranks to conquer the UFC’s middleweight division. While that happened, Wilnis has been training MMA behind closed doors. His kickboxing record may have suffered as consequence – as he’s lost five of six since beating Adesanya – but it’s all built toward an MMA debut of his own.
