Several fighters controlled their destinies at Invicta FC 6, including Claudia Gadelha and Leslie Smith . Gadelha stepped up on short notice to fight Ayaka Hamasaki on Saturday night, stepping in for injured strawweight champion Carla Esparza. It was a risky fight for Jewels 115-pound champion Hamasaki, who lost the bout via TKO stoppage to Gadelha. Not only did Hamasaki suffer the first defeat of her career, she also lost her title shot. With the victory, Gadelha earned the shot at Esparza when the champion returns from a knee injury suffered in training. With her unanimous decision victory over Jennifer Maia, Leslie Smith also earned title shot.

function not found Following her first successful outing in Invicta last year, current Jewels strawweight champion Ayaka Hamasaki is eager to follow up her success with her return to the promotion at Invicta FC 6 this Saturday night. “I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the venue last time,” Hamasaki told MMAWeekly.com . “I like when the fans are loud so I really feel comfortable fighting for Invicta FC. I am very excited about this Saturday night.” While Hamasaki is coming into the fight undefeated at 9-0, she felt her most recent performance was lacking. Hamasaki defeated Emi Fujino via unanimous decision in December. “(My performance in December) was not good at all,” said Hamasaki. “I injured my neck, so I really couldn’t fully train for that fight. “I shot in carelessly and she caught me few times, and in terms of utilizing (her game), Fujino-san was much better than myself.” Originally Hamasaki was supposed to face Carla Esparza for the Invicta strawweight title this Saturday, but unfortunately Esparza had to drop out of the fight

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 18 coaching lineup underwent a significant change this past week with the announcement that unbeaten rising star Cat Zingano (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) had withdrawn from the competition due to a torn ACL. Zingano had been scheduled to coach a team of male and female fighters against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), but the knee injury will sideline Zingano until 2014. Zingano earned her “TUF 18″ coaching position by stopping former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in April. With Zingano injured, Tate stepped in to take her place and surprised Rousey when she showed up for the first day of filming this past Tuesday. Rousey, who had not been informed about the coaching change, was reportedly shocked and upset because she initially believed that it was she who had been replaced. After confirming that her spot on “TUF 18″ was safe, Rousey began to warm up to the idea of coaching against Tate. The arch rivals will face off for a second time later this year, and Rousey’s UFC title will be on the line.
