Jimy Hettes was considered a top featherweight prospect when he made his UFC debut in August 2011. Less than five years and a mere six fights later, however, Hettes said he could be done fighting for good. Hettes’ (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) career took another harsh blow this week when he was forced to withdraw from a scheduled UFC Fight Night 81 bout with Charles Rosa (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) just one week prior to the event. Hettes said he suffered a knee injury in training that could ultimately cause the end of his career

Elvis Mutapcic The 11th hour changes for the UFC’s return to Boston this weekend continue with another pair of updated bookings featuring some promotional debuts. Jimy Hettes (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) is out of his featherweight fight against Charles Rosa (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 81, and Augusto Mendes (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will step in to take his place. In addition, UFC newcomer Abdul-Kerim Edilov (16-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is out of his light heavyweight fight with Francimar Barroso (17-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and has been replaced by Elvis Mutapcic (15-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Undefeated RFA vet Luke Sanders (10-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has stepped in to fight Blanco (12-6-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC), who originally was expected to fight fellow featherweight Dennis Bermudez (14-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC). UFC Fight Night 81 takes place Jan. 17 at TD Garden in Boston

Jimy Hettes NEWARK, N.J. – UFC President Dana White admitted he was a little quick on the trigger when a doctor shut down Jimy Hettes in his fight against Diego Brandao on Saturday. In the second fight at UFC on FOX 15, Diego Brandao (19-10 MMA, 5-3 UFC) got a TKO victory over Hettes (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) when a doctor from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board said Hettes’ exploded left cauliflower ear was a bit to gruesome and dangerous to continue. Initially, White posted his criticism on Twitter , saying, “You have to be kidding me New Jersey!!!!!” But two minutes later, he backtracked when he saw just how bad Hettes’ ear was: “Ok nevermind New Jersey. His ear was broke in half, good call!” UFC on FOX 15 took place at Prudential Center in Newark. The main card aired on FOX following prelims on FOX and UFC Fight Pass.

NEWARK, N.J. – In a sadly ironic twist for a fighter who prides himself on his jiu-jitsu skills, Jimy Hettes was undone by his own cauliflower ear in a TKO loss to Diego Brando . Of course, Brando (19-10 MMA, 5-3 UFC) helped things along with a sharp elbow strike that split Hettes’ (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) ear open, prompting a look from the doctor and a stoppage between rounds. The featherweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FOX 15 event at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims and a main card on FOX. The fight seemed to be off to a promising start with an action-packed first round.

Waldburger The Association of Ringside Physicians recently released a memo advising MMA fighters to abandon “extreme” measures in cutting weight for bouts while citing an unnamed study that claims 39 percent of fighters compete in a “dehydrated state.” The memo detailed the negative health effects that come from “improper weight loss” and dehydration, which include heat-related illness, kidney malfunction and increased risk of brain injury. It said fighters should ditch several well-known pre-fight methods for shedding pounds, including the use of saunas, rubberized suits and “excessive intense bouts of exercise.” The document, obtained by MMAjunkie, can be seen here
