Joe Duffy is moving on from MMA after suffering his third consecutive loss at UFC on ESPN+ 30. Duffy (16-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) suffered a first-round submission defeat to Joel Alvarez in their lightweight bout on Saturday’s card, which took place at Flash Forum at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The defeat marked the third consecutive setback for Duffy, who’s never experienced such a stretch of negative results. He took 16 months off coming into the fight, and it appears the outcome gave him the closure he needed to walk away. Duffy took to social media just minutes after his loss and announced his retirement (via Instagram ): Thank you all so much for all your messages of support all week

The third event of the UFC’s four-card August stretch on “Fight Island” takes place Saturday with UFC on ESPN+ 30 at Flash Forum at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. A title-fight rematch takes place in the main event when the UFC takes a second attempt at crowning a new flyweight champion. Deiveson Figueiredo (18-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) will attempt to repeat his February knockout of Joseph Benavidez (28-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC) when they run it back, but this time Figueiredo hopefully will be eligible for the belt by making weight

LONDON – Marc Diakiese (12-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) picked up a much-needed win in impressive fashion, snapping a three-fight losing streak with a dominant win over Joe Duffy (16-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC). The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC on ESPN+ 5 event at The O2 in London. It streamed on ESPN+. Duffy set up on the outside to start, kicking at the legs and avoiding a few counter rights to open.
