Ernest Chavez RFA is set for their final card of the calendar year with the announcement of RFA 33. The event takes place Dec. 11 at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. The main card will air on AXS TV. The promotion recently announced the event, as well as the headliner. The evening’s main event will be a lightweight bout between Ernest Chavez (9-2) taking on Adam Townsend (14-3).

A number of fighters have recently announced their releases , and now, more than a dozen others have apparently joined the list. According to @UFCFIGHTERSiNFO , an automated Twitter account that tracks changes to the official UFC.com fighter database, a number of competitors were cut. Although the UFC rarely announces roster cuts, the online roster is about as close to an official list as fans can get

The main event stayed intact, however, and Yoel Romero (10-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) stole the show with an incredible third-round knockout of Lyoto Machida (22-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) from a vicious series of elbows. Joe Merritt After posting a 3-0 mark in 2014, all three wins by TKO, Joe Merritt had his eyes on a shot with the sport’s biggest promotion. But when the call came, Merritt admits he was in a little bit of shock. Visa issues forced 12 fighters off of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 70 card, leaving the UFC scrambling for options. Merritt, who most recently fought for RFA, would be one of the beneficiaries of the UFC’s dire position. It was RFA President Ed Soares who was able to deliver the good news to Merritt. “He gave me a phone call, and it was, ‘Hey, would you like to fight in the UFC?’” Merritt told MMAjunkie Radio
