“UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie” is in the books and in one of the most highly criticized pay-per-view fight cards of 2013, the UFC produced a mixed bag of knockouts, submissions, controversial judging and disfigured limbs. A Brazilian fighter had his hand raised in four of the five main card bouts as John Lineker , Thales Leites , Cezar Ferreira and, of course, Jose Aldo , defeated their respective opponents in impressive fashion. The lone non-Brazilian to score a victory on the pay-per-view was Phil Davis , who upset former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in a decision that had many, including UFC President Dana White , up in arms. No matter the nature of each man’s victory, they all accomplished the ultimate goal of the sport, and that’s being declared the winner at the conclusion of the fight.

‘Strong victory’ at UFC Fight Night 28 likely earns Glover Teixeira title shot

RIO DE JANEIRO – If Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) plays his cards right, his next fight may earn him a shot at the UFC’s light heavyweight title. UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik revealed at Saturday night’s post-UFC 163 press conference in Rio de Janeiro that UFC President Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva told him an impressive win by Teixeira in his upcoming bout with Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) could earn him a crack at the belt. “Dana and Joe have confirmed with a strong victory by Glover that he probably gets the winner of the Jon Jones fight,” Zelaznik said. Teixeira and Bader meet in the headlining bout of next month’s UFC Fight Night 28 event, which takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Cung Le favors ‘TUF’ coaching over fighting, but Bisping still on his radar

Cung Le said he’s waiting to hear whether his next career move involves fighting or coaching. At the moment, he doesn’t know which one it will be. Le (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC), who his past November knocked out ex-champ Rich Franklin , said he still wants to fight Michael Bisping . And until recently, he was under the impression he would do so. “Before [Bisping's] last fight, my camp was talking to (UFC matchmaker) Joe (Silva) about a potential matchup, and they said that if he wins, it looks good,” Le told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “Next thing I know, two or three days ago, I saw that Bisping was going to fight in October in England. “Even though I’m not 100 percent, I wasn’t 100 percent in China, either. If they really needed me, they would have called me. I thought we were working something out, but obviously, the next day, the word was that they were targeting me to coach.” The former Strikeforce champ might be referring to an MMAjunkie.com report earlier this month that stated he was targeted to coach on “The Ultimate Fighter: China,” which is slated to debut in November and run for 12 episodes. Featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions are soon to audition for the show. Le thought that was the answer he was waiting for, but as he said, “no one’s called me.” “So I caught (UFC President) Dana (White) today (at the UFC Fan Expo), and he told me I’m on his call list,” he added.

LAS VEGAS – Josh Thomson ‘s message to UFC officials is clear: Give me a fight with Anthony Pettis , and then give me the UFC lightweight title shot I’ve been awaiting for the past decade. Thomson, in Las Vegas for UFC 162, spoke to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Wednesday about his recovery from minor knee and elbow surgeries, and his current plan for a September or October return to the cage. “I’m just begging and pleading to Joe Silva and Dana White to give me the Pettis fight,” he said. Thomson (20-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC), a longtime Strikeforce fighter, returned to the UFC in April and upset Nate Diaz via TKO at UFC on FOX 7. It marked the first’s knockout loss of Diaz’s career. Pettis (16-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), meanwhile, recently was forced out of a featherweight title fight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163. Now, Pettis has said he wants to return to lightweight and possibly fight the winner of UFC 164′s headliner between champion Benson Henderson and T.J. Grant
