Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal Bellator MMA is continuing its recent trend of flashy moves to draw eyeballs in 2015. Bellator President Scott Coker made the announcement of what he called a “superfight” for Bellator 134. Muhammed Lawal (14-4 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) will move up to heavyweight to face Cheick Kongo (22-9-2 MMA, 4-1 BMMA). Bellator officials confirmed the booking to MMAjunkie on Tuesday.

Bellator MMA cuts ties with light heavyweight Joe Vedepo following recent arrest

Joe Vedepo Bellator MMA will not keep light heavyweight veteran Joe Vedepo under contract in the wake of his arrest this past week in Iowa City, Iowa. Bellator President Scott Coker said the fighter, who earlier this month lost a third-round TKO to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at Bellator 131, was under a one-fight deal with options to extend it. “He needs to get these things figured out first,” Coker told MMAjunkie. Vedepo, 32, was taken into custody after he allegedly refused to leave a bar and then scuffled with several police officers, one of whom he headbutted in the chest and sent to the hospital with back injuries.

Bellator fighter Joe Vedepo allegedly head-butts, hospitalizes police officer

Joe Vedepo Less than two weeks after a third-round TKO loss at Bellator 131, MMA veteran Joe Vedepo was reportedly arrested after a drunken fight with police officers and now sits in jail. According to The Gazette , Vedepo, 31, was taken into custody this past Friday, Nov. 28, after he head-butted an officer in the chest and was Tasered during a struggle outside a bar in Iowa City, Iowa. Police say they were called to Sports Column after Vedepo refused to leave. The fighter told officers he “knew his rights” and resisted them as he tried to re-enter the bar, according to the report. It took several officers to subdue him, and he kicked at officers after being transferred from one police car to another.
