For the first time since October 2019, Bellator will travel to Temecula, Calif., on Friday with Bellator 293 , which takes place at Pechanga Casino Resort with a main card that airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie. A matchup of surging heavyweight contenders will be featured in the main event. Marcelo Golm (10-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) and Daniel James (14-6-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will put their unbeaten promotional records on the line as they meet in a five-round contest that will elevate the winner into the title conversation. The full fight card for Bellator 293 is locked, pending any unforeseen withdrawals. As previously announced, the card is headlined by heavyweight contenders Marcelo Golm (10-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) and Daniel James (14-6-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), and also features a co-main event between Leah McCourt (7-2 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) and Cat Zingano (13-4 MMA, 3-4 BMMA). The event airs on Showtime after prelims on MMA Junkie. On Tuesday, the promotion announced its full 16-fight card for March 31 at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif.

Despite being held to just 18 events in 2020 due to the global pandemic, Bellator was able to keep the proverbial ball rolling in regards to fostering new names and cultivating homegrown talent. Sure, it’s been easy to get excited about big-name signings like Yoel Romero or Anthony Johnson, but I think the promotion carries a quiet value with the offerings that are often found on their undercards. So, with that in mind, I decided to steer away from mainstream names or past grand prix competitors in order to focus on the dark horses whom I see either making their marks or (in some cases) taking a stab at a title in 2021. Davis (8-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) extended his perfect professional record when he defeated Bobby Lee (12-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) via unanimous decision at Bellator 253 on Thursday, where he continued to show off his wrestling abilities. A four-time NCAA Division II champion, Davis went undefeated through all four years of his collegiate wrestling career at Notre Dame College of Ohio, becoming only the third NCAA wrestler to ever accomplish that feat.

The first half of Bellator’s weekend doubleheader in Hawaii went down Friday with Bellator 235, which took place at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, with a main card that aired on Paramount following prelims on MMA Junkie. In the makeshift main event, Hawaii’s own Toby Misech pulled off a stunning upset when he spoiled the promotional debut of UFC veteran Erik Perez with a brilliant first-round knockout .
