ONE Championship 106: Stamp Fairtex extends perfect start to MMA career with first-round finish

Thailand’s two-sport martial arts champion Stamp Fairtex continued a winning start to her MMA career with a first-round finish of Indian wushu champion Puja Tomar at “ONE Championship 106: A New Tomorrow.” Twenty-two-year-old Fairtex already holds ONE Championship’s atomweight muay Thai and kickboxing titles, but she now aims to make history as the organization’s first three-sport champion by capturing the MMA strap. Her unbeaten start to life in MMA continued Friday at Bangkok’s Impact Arena, defeating Tomar via ground-and-pound TKO in front of an appreciative crowd in Thailand. After a cagey start, Fairtex (4-0) backed Tomar (4-4) into the corner and connected with a pair of powerful roundhouse kicks to the body before the Indian changed levels and took the Thai to the mat. Fairtex reversed position and returned to her feet but was quickly brought back to the canvas once again by another takedown

ONE Championship’s first live event of 2020 sees the Asian martial arts promotion return to a familiar venue as Bangkok’s Impact Arena plays host to ‘ONE Championship 106: A New Tomorrow’ in Thailand. The card features a host of striking-based matchups, with five muay Thai bouts and one kickboxing match, but while the organization’s flyweight muay Thai title may be on the line in the final bout of the evening, all eyes will be on the night’s featured MMA clash, as two-sport ONE champion Stamp Fairtex (3-0) bids to continue her winning start to life as a mixed martial artist. The Thai atomweight already holds ONE’s muay Thai and kickboxing titles, and wants to become the first three-sport champion in the organization’s history. Her next test will see her face off against Indian wushu champion Puja Tomar (4-3) in Bangkok. Stamp Fairtex might not necessarily be a household name in the United States, but the 22-year-old from Pattaya is a star in her native Thailand, and she’s set her sights on an historic achievement as a ONE Championship athlete. Fairtex (3-0) exploded onto the scene in Asia as a contestant in Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, a talent-finding roadshow that assesses undiscovered prospects across the region, then pits them in head-to-head matchups with the winner earning a contract to compete on the main ONE Championship roster. Fairtex’s high-level muay Thai striking instantly stood out to Franklin, who pitched her into her first MMA-rules bout against Indian prospect Rashi Shinde.

CFFC 74 results: Pat Sabatini defends title with second-round submission

Pat Sabatini (11-2) defended his title in impressive fashion, tapping out fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Fabricio Oliveira (11-6) to retain his featherweight belt. The bout served as the main event of Friday’s CFFC 74 event, which streamed live on UFC Fight Pass from Etess Arena in Atlantic City, N.J. The two grapplers were quick to clinch at the start of the fight, and Sabatini briefly threatened the neck from the standing position. When Oliveira adjusted to pull free, Sabatini turned his attention to a few knees to the body before changing levels and looking to drag the action to the canvas, though the effort was unsuccessful. Oliveira also looked for a takedown during the grueling clinchwork, but Sabatini sprawled well and reversed the position.
