UFC veterans in MMA and boxing action July 25-28

This week, the UFC travels to England for its July pay-per-view event. The event at Co-op Live in Manchester features two title fights. Leon Edwards puts his welterweight title on the line against Belal Muhammad and Tom Aspinall risks his interim heavyweight title against Curtis Blaydes. BKFC, RIZIN announce talent swap partnership with bareknuckle fights headed to Japan

Bareknuckle boxing is headed to Japan’s most prominent MMA promotion. BKFC and RIZIN have formed a talent-share partnership with the intention of co-promoting full bareknuckle boxing cards in 2025 under a newly formed brand name. BKFC president David Feldman and RIZIN promoter Nobuyuki Sakakibara announced the news Wednesday on “ The MMA Hour .” The first talent crossovers have already been mapped out. RIZIN star Tatsuki Shinotsuka (1-0) will head to the United States for BKFC Fight Night: Pechanga on July 12 in Temecula, Calif. and will face Cary Caprio (2-1).

John Dodson likes his chances against UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja . Dodson only lost twice in the UFC as a flyweight – both title fights against Demetrious Johnson. The Season 14 “Ultimate Fighter” winner was released by the UFC in 2020 after going 4-5 as a bantamweight. Dodson, who’s now back down at 125 pounds, said what prompted his move up to bantamweight was the UFC’s unwillingness to book a trilogy bout between him and Johnson down the line. So, seeing Brandon Moreno fight Deiveson Figueiredo four times and Pantoja three times, Dodson thinks he’d fair well against the top UFC flyweights

Former UFC flyweight title challenger John Dodson continues to build his bona fides in the world of bareknuckle boxing and in March will headline a card as champion in front of his home fans. Dodson will put his flyweight title on the line against Dagoberto Aguero at BKFC 59, the promotion announced Monday. The event will take place March 29 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M., which is Dodson’s home city. “We love promoting events in Albuquerque, whether it’s the huge shows at the Tingley Coliseum or our tremendous sold-out BKFC Prospect Series event this past Friday night at the Revel,” BKFC president David Feldman said in a statement. “The deep local talent pool of great bareknuckle fighters and the overwhelming support we’ve received from local fans over the last two years makes Albuquerque one of the very best cities for BKFC. “John Dodson has looked sensational in his first three BKFC fights, but Dagoberto Aguero is a tough and talented Dominican with an impressive professional boxing record, and he made a remarkably impressive showing in his BKFC debut in November.” Dodson made his BKFC in August 2022 with a first-round knockout of Ryan Benoit.

The event takes place Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the promotion announced at a news conference Thursday. Atop the billing will be two title fights. An inaugural RIZIN flyweight title has been implemented as former Bellator bantamweight champion Kyoji Horiguchi (31-5) battles Makoto Shinryu (16-1-1).

In front of another sold-out crowd of 7,483 on Friday night at the famed Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, (BKFC) presented a sensational evening of world class bare-knuckle fighting. Said David Feldman, President and Founder of BKFC, “Another fantastic event here in Albuquerque, New Mexico crowning a new BKFC Flyweight World Champion and Bryce Hall won his first bare-knuckle fight.” “The Knockout of the Night went to Keith Richardson and the Fight of the Night went to Anthony Sanchez and Gene Perez in our prelims. We’re looking forward to bigger and better things in Albuquerque.” The event was broadcast FREE of charge on the BKFC App and Fubo Sports. In the main event of the evening, local fan favorite John ‘The Magician’ Dodson, 3-0, of Albuquerque, NM stopped JR ‘The Lion’ Ridge, (3-2), in the first round, earning the first BKFC Flyweight World Title. Using excellent accuracy and landing numerous power shots, Dodson scored the second knockout of the opening stanza leading to the stoppage at the 1:49 mark
