Demetrious Johnson continued to put his stamp on the UFC flyweight division with a dominant victory over John Moraga at UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night in Seattle. Johnson controlled the fight, nearly from bell to bell, save for a couple explosions from Moraga, and finished with an armbar late in the fifth and final round. It was only Johnson’s second title defense, but talk already has shifted to whether or not he should step outside his division and take on a superfight, which seems to be all the rage lately. Johnson, and company president Dana White, certainly had a lot to say about Johnson’s performance on Saturday night and the prospects of fighting up against bantamweight champions following his victory on Saturday night.

SEATTLE – UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson hardly missed a step between the birth of his first child and his fight camp for John Moraga at UFC on FOX 8. Johnson (17-2-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he missed but one day of training to be with wife Destiny as she gave birth to his son Tyren after 14 hours in labor. So for those who think his focus might be off for his second attempted title defense, they can think again. “I didn’t have to miss one OBGYN appointment, and people were like, ‘Oh, you’re distracted,’” Johnson said. “I’m like, ‘Last time I checked, this is life, and fighting is part of my life, and so is my wife.’” Of course, it was an entirely new experience in his life, which wasn’t exactly what he expected at times. “The labor was a little more intense than I thought it was,” said Johnson, who headlines the FOX-televised card against Moraga (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on Saturday at Seattle’s KeyArena, which is a short drive from his home in Kirkland.

The flyweight has fought twice in the UFC, finishing his opponents inside the distance both times, but “only the hardcore fans really know who I am or have seen me fight,” Moraga told USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Maybe that’s because Moraga (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), a two-time All-America wrestler at Arizona State, has yet to appear on the main card of a UFC event. Instead he’s been relegated to the prelims, kicking off the show in the middle of the afternoon, when most fight fans are more concerned with gathering snacks for that evening’s festivities than they are with one no-name undercard fighter facing another on the UFC’s Facebook stream. “The Ultimate Fighter 15″ cast member Daron Cruickshank (12-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has stepped in to replace and injured Spencer Fisher (24-9 MMA, 9-8 UFC) and now meets Yves Edwards (42-19-1 MMA, 10-7 UFC) at this month’s UFC on FOX 8 event. UFC officials today announced the new booking, the fourth injury-related switch of the day on the FOX-broadcast event. Featuring UFC flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson defending his belt against John Moraga , UFC on FOX 8 takes place July 27 at Seattle’s KeyArena. The evening’s main card airs on FOX following prelims that air on FX and stream on Facebook. Cruickshank vs. Edwards is expected to air on the evening’s FX-broadcast portion. A 16-year veteran of the sport, Edwards made his UFC debut in 2001 and has since fought 17 times for the promotion. In between his multiple stints in the octagon, the “Thugjitsu Master” has also fought under the PRIDE, Strikeforce, EliteXC and Bellator MMA banner, among others.

UFC flyweights Louis Gaudinot and Tim Elliott will square off in the latest fight added to the UFC 164 fight card slated for Aug. 31 in Milwaukee, Wis. UFC officials on Tuesday night announced the bout. Both men have fought twice in the Octagon, and both are 1-1 during their respective UFC tenures. Gaudinot (6-2) – who made his way to the UFC via the fourteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter – lost to Johnny Bedford at the TUF 14 Finale, but rebounded by submitting John Lineker at UFC on Fox 3 last May
