ABU DHABI – The fighters took to the scale at the host hotel on Yas Island ahead of UFC on ESPN+ 30 with three athletes failing to make weight during a drawn-out session ahead of Wednesday night’s fights. The main event was made official early in the session, with Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige both making weight with ease for their featherweight headliner, while the co-main event between Ryan Benoit and Tim Elliott was also confirmed with both men hitting the flyweight mark with no issues. There were a few weight misses further down the card, however.

Khamzat Chimaev tapped as replacement to fight John Phillips at UFC on ESPN 13

It didn’t take long for the UFC to find John Phillips a replacement opponent. With Dusko Todorovic out, the UFC is now targeting Khamzat Chimaev to fight Phillips (22-9 MMA, 1-3 UFC) on July 15. UFC on ESPN 13 takes place on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi as part of the promotion’s stretch of four “Fight Island” events in 15 days. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the targeted booking to MMA Junkie on Wednesday, but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Russian MMA reporter Igor Lazorin was the first to report the news.

UFC London’s John Phillips vs. Dusko Todorovic added to Cage Warriors 113

There will be at least one “UFC London” fight on the card at Cage Warriors 113 this Friday. The middleweight bout between Wales’ John Phillips and Serbia’s Dusko Todorovic , originally set to take place on the preliminary card of UFC on ESPN+ 29, will now take place on the Cage Warriors 113 card instead. The event, which takes place at the Indigo at The O2 in London, will go ahead, but as a behind-closed-doors event, with the U.K. government expected to announce a ban on mass gatherings from Monday. Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan revealed to MMA Junkie Sunday night that he was in discussions with relevant parties to try to save some of the fights scheduled for London that had effectively been scrapped following the enforced postponement of their Mar. 21 event.

When Phillips (22-9 MMA, 1-3 UFC) stepped into the octagon at UFC on ESPN+ 18 in Copenhagen, he did so as a man fighting for his UFC career. After suffering three successive losses since joining the promotion, the 34-year-old knew he was fighting in the last chance saloon when he took on Alen Amedovski. “It’s been a worry from the first loss, then the second loss and the third loss,” Phillips told MMA Junkie.

In the final prelim of the event, the two middleweight fighters bit down on their mouthpieces and chucked bombs. Phillips was the first – and final – fighter to land a big shot.
