A previously-vacant title now has a Brazilian owner following LFA 126, which took place Friday at Complexo Ribalta in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the featherweight title fight main event, Jose Delano (10-2) battled Dana White’s Contender Series alum Jonas Bilharinho (9-2-1) but no champion was crowned. Delano won via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 48-47) after five hard-fought rounds. Delano wasn’t even originally scheduled for the five-round main event.

LFA returns to Brazil in March, two title fights top the bill

The LFA cage will return to Brazil on March 11, and a pair of championship fights will headline the card. Promotion officials today announced that LFA 126 takes place Friday, March 11, at Ribalta Espaco Multieventos in Rio de Janeiro and stream live on UFC Fight Pass. Jonas Bilharinho (9-1-1) and Rafael Barbosa (14-4) will compete for the promotion’s featherweight title, while Gabriel Bonfim (11-0) and Quemuel Ottoni (11-3) meet with the promotion’s vacant welterweight belt on the line. “We are excited to feature two LFA title fights when we return to Brazil at LFA 126,” LFA CEO Ed Soares stated. “Jonas Bilharinho and Rafael Barbosa are two of the top prospects in the world.

Week 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series (2021) took place on Tuesday in Las Vegas, and we’re grading the winners from the five-fight card, which streamed on ESPN+ from the UFC Apex. With a simple but digestible format that has had the MMA fanbase responding, this series has shown to have legs in multiple ways while serving as a crockpot for contenders whom the UFC matchmakers can use for future events. So, with that trend in mind, I will once again be taking a look at the winning fighters regardless of whether or not they won a UFC contract, grading their performances in regards to their probability of returning to a UFC stage.

LAS VEGAS – Dana White contemplated giving Jonas Bilharinho a UFC contract after his spinning wheel kick finish on Tuesda but ultimately decided against it. The decision wasn’t an easy one for the UFC president, who loves nothing more than a highlight-reel knockout. But leading up to Bilharinho’s third-round TKO of Canaan Kawaihae at Dana White’s Contender Series 46, the fight didn’t gauge White’s interest a whole lot. However, Bilharinho, who once served as Jose Aldo’s training partner for the Conor McGregor fight, is certainly on White’s radar moving forward. Watch Jonas Bilharinho’s spectacular flying-knee knockout at Future FC 9

Remember Jonas Bilharinho ? He was the sparring partner Jose Aldo drafted in to mimic Conor McGregor’s fighting style ahead of their scheduled fight at UFC 189. Unfortunately, things didn’t exactly go to plan, as Bilharinho went on to damage Aldo’s ribs with a spinning back-kick during sparring, forcing the then-champion out of the fight and setting off a chain of events that eventually resulted in McGregor sitting on top of the MMA world after making Aldo the victim of a 13-second knockout at UFC 194 in December 2015.

Jose Aldo and Jonas Bilharinho Well before he got the call to play the role of Conor McGregor in UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo ’s training camp, Jonas Bilharinho had studied the Irish fighter’s style and strengths. Why not, Bilharinho figured. He was the featherweight champ in Jungle Fight, and he had plans of moving on to the UFC some day. That he would eventually fight McGregor seemed not unlikely, so he might as well get a head start on his homework.
