Unfortunate circumstances have kept UFC matchmakers busy in the lead-up to Saturday’s event as UFC on ESPN 61 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas has encountered a handful of changes in the days prior. The scheduled co-main event between Chris Gutierrez and Javid Basharat won’t happen as planned. Basharat is out of the fight for undisclosed reasons; LFA standout Quang Le will make his promotional debut against Gutierrez (20-6-2 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC). Fanáticos del MMA GT first reported the news. Prior to the change, Le (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was scheduled to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept.

UFC adds Yusaku Kinoshita vs. Jonny Parsons to August Fight Night event

An upcoming UFC Fight Night event in August has added a bout between explosive welterweights. Japan’s Yusaku Kinoshita will try for his first UFC victory when he meets Jonny Parsons on Aug. 10. The event takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the matchup verified the booking with MMA Junkie. The people requested anonymity because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC Fight Night 232 has encountered two fight week changes thus far, and it’s only Tuesday. With Cesar Almeida and Jonny Parsons out of Saturday’s event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Christian Leroy Duncan and Uros Medic have new opponents. Three people with knowledge of the changes recently informed MMA Junkie of them but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

LONDON – Jonny Parsons called out Paddy Pimblett after his Saturday win, but that’s actually not whom he intended to pick a fight against. Parsons (9-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was victorious in his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 224 in London with a second-round TKO of Danny Roberts (18-8 MMA, 7-7 UFC). LONDON – Danny Roberts showed incredible heart, but Jonny Parsons proved to be too much to handle. Parsons (9-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Roberts (18-8 MMA, 7-7 UFC) engaged in a Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots-like fight to thrill the crowd. Parsons was able to wobble Roberts on multiple occasions, until a knee off the break followed by a combination dropped and finished the Brit at the 4:57 mark of Round 2 Saturday at The O2. LAS VEGAS – Despite earning a hard-fought win on Dana White’s Contender Series 44, Jonny Parsons expected to walk away with a UFC contract. In the featured bout Tuesday night, Parsons (8-2) defeated Solomon Renfro by split decision in a fight in which he overcame an early barrage to get his hand raised. It’s been a long journey for the 30-year-old, who knew his performance was enough to impress Dana White. “Honestly, I’m not surprised,” Parsons said during the DWCS 44 post-fight news conference. “This is where I belong.” He continued, “I thought I put on an exciting fight, the kind of fight that Dana wants to see, and I feel like I got the good reaction out of him and the things he said when he told me I earned a contract, I knew I gave him what he was looking for.” Although Parsons thought all three judges should have awarded him the win, the split decision call somehow assured him that he was the victor.
