This week, the UFC returns to pay-per-view for UFC 291 in Salt Lake City. The event at Delta Center features a lightweight rematch, this time for the BMF title, between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje . Elsewhere, many other combat sports events are taking place that feature a number of familiar names that have competed under the UFC banner. UFC parts ways with Luke Sanders, four other fighters

Luke Sanders and four others are the latest fighters to part ways with the UFC. Multiple people with knowledge of the situation recently confirmed to MMA Junkie the roster moves after TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter and Sherdog’s Tom Feely noted that the fighters were missing from the promotion’s online fan-ranking eligibility. The people who confirmed the roster moves asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Check out the recent UFC departures below. The roster moves, unless explicitly noted, are not necessarily a “cut.” The UFC may have elected not to re-sign certain fighters who were at the end of their promotional deals.

Dana White’s Contender Series standout Luis Saldana has his first UFC assignment. The promotion is currently targeting a fight between Saldana (14-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Jordan Griffin for the UFC Fight Night event on April 10, which takes place at an unannounced location and venue. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. MMA DNA was first to report the news. Saldana earned his UFC contract with a vicious knockout of Team Alpha Male’s Vince Murdock on DWCS last November. Following two consecutive front kicks to the face, Saldana finished Murdock with punches in Round 3

The flyweight mess The UFC flyweight division endured its worst-case scenario with Deiveson Figueiredo (18-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) stopping Joseph Benavidez (28-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC) with strikes in the second round of the main event, thus keeping the title vacant because the Brazilian missed weight by 2.5 pounds for the contest, making him ineligible to claim the belt.
