Luis Pena, Tim Elliott among four UFC fighters suspended for positive drug tests

Four UFC fighters have been given suspensions at the latest Nevada Athletic Commission hearing. On Thursday, the NAC suspended and fined Jamahal Hill , Tim Elliott and Luis Pena for testing positive for cannabis, while Deron Winn was suspended for testing positive for amphetamines. Elliott (16-11-1 MMA, 5-9 UFC) and Pena (8-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) each were suspended four and a half months and fined 15 percent of the fight purses from their corresponding bouts. They each received reduced suspensions since they had taken their fights on short notice. Elliott lost to Brandon Royval on May 30 at UFC on ESPN 9. Pena lost to Khama Worthy on June 27 at UFC on ESPN 12.

Once again, Jorge Gonzalez has a date and opponent for his UFC debut. Gonzalez (16-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been booked to take on promotional sophomore Ike Villanueva on Aug. 15 at UFC 252 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Weight cut issues for Kenneth Bergh force cancellation of Jorge Gonzalez fight at UFC on ESPN 13

The light heavyweight bout between Kenneth Bergh and Jorge Gonzalez has been removed from the UFC on ESPN 13 card. Norway’s Bergh (8-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who was scheduled to open up Wednesday’s card against Gonzalez at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, reportedly had issues during his weight cut and did not make it to the scale for the weigh-ins on Tuesday morning. He was deemed unfit to continue cutting down to the 206-pound light heavyweight limit and, as a result, has been removed from the card. Gonzalez weighed in at 205 pounds, but their late-addition bout was subsequently scrapped. MMA Junkie confirmed the news of the bout removal following an initial report from MMA Viking . Norway’s Bergh picked up a first-round submission win over Antonio Trocoli at “Dana White’s Contender Series” in July 2019, but the result was overturned to a no-contest after he tested positive for a banned substance
