Following nearly three years away from combat sports, former PFL heavyweight Josh Copeland is ready to return to fighting in a new arena. For his return to fighting, Copeland will step into the BKFC and take his skills into the bare knuckle arena. “The bare knuckle thing was something I always wanted to try before my career is over,” Copeland told MMAWeekly.com. “It might be a one and done thing, it might turn into something more than that.

Brave Combat Federation will hold an openweight tournament, and two UFC veterans have thrown their names in the hat. Fabio Maldonado and Josh Copeland both have applied to take part in the tournament set for Nov. 15 at Brave CF 29 in Bahrain, sources told MMA Junkie on Tuesday. Maldonado (24-12 MMA, 5-6 UFC) competed 11 times under the UFC banner and has fought the likes of heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former light heavyweight champion “Rampage” Jackson.

PFL releases Josh Copeland after plea deal in domestic violence case

PFL heavyweight Josh Copeland today accepted a plea agreement with Colorado prosecutors after allegedly assaulting his wife in February. Copeland, 36, pleaded guilty to a pair of charges – felony second-degree assault with serious bodily injury and misdemeanor third degree assault – in exchange for two years of probation. As long as the veteran stays out of trouble during that time, he will avoid jail and have the felony charge expunged from his record, Adams County (Colo.) district attorney public information officer Sue Lindsey told MMA Junkie following an initial report from TMZ . The guilty plea has nevertheless prompted Copeland’s promoter PFL to release him contract. In a prepared statement, PFL spokesperson Greg Savage told MMA Junkie the fighter has been “released from his contract and is no longer associated with the PFL.” Copeland’s manager, Brian Butler of SuckerPunch Entertainment, declined comment on the plea

PFL suspends Josh Copeland indefinitely following alleged domestic violence incident

Heavyweight Josh Copeland ’s PFL career is on pause after he reportedly punched his wife in an alleged domestic violence incident on Feb 2. “The PFL has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence,” read a statement released to MMAjunkie by PFL spokesperson Greg Savage. “Per our company policy, following his arrest, Josh Copeland has been suspended indefinitely.” Savage did not elaborate on the terms of Copeland’s suspension. Reached for comment, Copeland’s manager, Brian Butler of SuckerPunch Entertainment, said in a text message “there is an ongoing investigation and until we have all the facts we can’t comment.” Copeland, 36, has been charged with second-degree assault, obstruction and child abuse after police found the fighter’s wife with a bruised eye and blood down her face, according to TMZ.com . A police report from Adams County (Colo.) Sheriffs Dept.
