Grappling standout Robert Drysdale returned to MMA competition for the first time in more than two years for Friday’s Legacy 58 headliner, which aired on AXS TV from Golden Nugget Casino Hotel in Lake Charles, La. It was a memorable comeback for Drysdale (7-0). In what was the longest fight of his career thus far, he claimed the vacant Legacy FC light heavyweight title with a second-round submission of Ryan Spann (9-3).

Robert Drysdale vs. Ryan Spann headlines Legacy FC 58 for light heavyweight title in Louisiana

The light heavyweight title will be on the line when Legacy FC heads to Louisiana in July. Brazilian jiu-jitsu standout Robert Drysdale (6-0) will fight Ryan Spann (9-2) for the promotion’s 205-pound belt at Legacy FC 58, the promotion has announced. Legacy FC 58 will take place July 22 at Golden Nugget Hotel Casino in Lake Charles, La.

Legacy FC 48 results: Leonardo Leite dominates Ryan Spann to defend title

Leonardo Leite Ryan Spann told the AXS TV Fights commentators that he didn’t believe Leonardo Leite did anything particularly well ahead of challenging for the middleweight title at Legacy FC 48. That is an assessment he’ll be revisiting after the champion took a clean sweep on the judges scorecards. The 6’5” Spann (8-2) used his length well in the early stages of Round 1, keeping the fight at distance and picking the spots he wanted to engage. Eventually, he was able to score a knockdown, but Leites (7-0) survived the troublesome spot in the opening frame to dominate the remainder of the bout. Leite’s bona fides on the ground were on display after the early knockdown as he took the fight over whenever he was able to close the distance and score a takedown, which became increasingly frequent as the fight wore on. In Round 3, Spann’s concerns over keeping the fight standing left an opening for a solid left hand from Leite to land clean and buckle his legs

The contest served as the headlining bout of Friday’s exciting Legacy FC 42 card, which took place at Golden Nugget Lake Charles in Lake Charles, La. The opening round was contested on the feet, and both men had moments of success. However, while it seemed Quayhagen may have done just enough to take the frame, neither man could have been comfortable banking the round after an evenly contested affair. Njokuani had a few solid moments late in the in the second frame, scoring a few knees and short shots on the inside that seemed to find their mark
