Clayton Carpenter is one-for-one in the UFC. Saturday at UFC Fight Night 219 , Carpenter (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) showed off his slick grappling skills when he submitted Juancamilo Ronderos (4-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) by rear-naked choke at the 3:13 mark of Round 1. The event took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Carpenter, 26, was taken down early by Ronderos. He utilized a triangle choke attempt from the bottom to obtain top position. Eventually, Carpenter shifted to the back, locked in a choke and got the tap for his first UFC victory in as many attempts

Juancamilo Ronderos suspended nine months after testing positive for marijuana, cocaine

LAS VEGAS – UFC flyweight Juancamilo Ronderos has been suspended nine months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and fined a total of $2,245.36 after testing positive for both marijuana and cocaine. The commission issued the ruling at Thursday’s monthly meeting, which was held at the Grant Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas. In July, Ronderos was retroactively suspended for one month by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the UFC’s official anti-doping partner, following an in-competition test collected on May 22 at UFC Fight Night 188 that was positive for “cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine,” according to the organization. Ronderos (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who stepped into a bout with David Dvorak on just one day’s notice, was submitted in the first round of the fight. However, because the contest fell under the jurisdiction of the NSAC, the commission also had to resolve the case

LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC Fight Night 188 fighter weigh-ins. The weigh-ins took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Saturday’s card, which airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+. Among those weighing in were former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt (12-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and Rob Font (18-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC), who meet in the main event, and former women’s strawweight champ Carla Esparza (17-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC), who takes on Yan Xiaonan (13-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC).

Juancamilo Ronderos (3-0) introduced the hold to the UFC Fight Pass audience watching Wednesday’s “WXC 80: Warrior Wednesday 5” event in Michigan, earning a technical submission win over a previously undefeated Matthew Elliott (4-1) with the slick move that clearly damaged his opponent’s arm. Ronderos also claimed the promotion’s vacant flyweight title with the headlining victory. “It’s one of those moves that once you know it, it’s hard to catch guys, but if you’ve got a big, strong dude on top of you – like the guy that was fighting Juan – and it’s hard to get up, it’s go for broke, and that move always freaking works,” Ronderos’ coach, Dennis Davis, told MMA Junkie
