Following an injury to main event star James Gallagher, Bellator’s European matchmaker Jude Samuel has shuffled the deck, with Northern Irish women’s MMA pioneer Leah McCourt set to take center stage in the biggest fight of her career. The former IMMAF amateur world champion will headline the reshuffled fight card against Germany’s Judith Ruis in a women’s featherweight main event, while a card packed with Irish and British prospects will look to wow the passionate and knowledgable Irish crowd on what is sure to be another wild night in Dublin

Northern Ireland’s Leah McCourt has been handed an unexpected promotional push at Bellator Europe 7, but she’s taking it all in stride and embracing the limelight. Speaking with MMA Junkie on media day in Dublin, McCourt (3-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) said her promotion to the main event following the postponement of James Gallagher’s bout with Cal Ellenor came as something of a surprise, but she is enjoying every moment ahead of fight night at 3Arena. “It’s added a lot more excitement and entertainment, and me and my daughter are definitely excited for me to be in this position,” McCourt said

James Gallagher ruled out of Bellator Europe 7, Leah McCourt steps up for first Bellator headliner

The fight card for Bellator Europe 7 has taken a hit with the news that Irish bantamweight star James Gallagher is out of the event due to an undisclosed injury. Bellator officials confirmed to MMA Junkie that Gallagher will not compete at the event, which takes place at the 3Arena, Dublin, on Saturday, Feb. 22. No replacement will be found, which means his scheduled main event opponent Cal Ellenor will also be taken off the card and rebooked for a future event. The change means the event now has a new main event, with Northern Ireland’s women’s featherweight Leah McCourt (3-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) set to take center stage for her first Bellator main event.
