The official end of Bellator MMA (originally known as Bellator Fighting Championships from its debut in 2009 through 2012), coupled with the constant news of former Bellator fighters expressing their discontent with the PFL, has definitely brought on a wave of nostalgia for me – perhaps a bigger wave than I would have imagined. I’m extremely grateful for my time as a Bellator play-by-play commentator, which spanned 127 events and (somehow) exactly 1,250 fights from 2010 through 2015. One to never keep track of things like this, I went back and counted for this article. Even though I had already commentated Pride and M1 Global, when Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney hired me in November 2009, he gave me a gig that fully shifted me from being a soccer commentator to a fight commentator – which is exactly what I wanted, and for which I will always be extremely grateful. The announcement of Patricio Freire – arguably the greatest fighter in Bellator history and inarguably the fighter with the best-ever Bellator career – signing with the UFC definitely created a conversation about which other Bellator alumni could soon make this move. This also has opened up discussions about which now-retired Bellator greats could have gone to the UFC had they been given the chance, or seized the opportunity presented.

Report: Julia Budd released after removal from 2023 PFL Championships

Julia Budd is no longer on the PFL roster. The former Bellator champion was scheduled to compete against Kayla Harrison at 2023 PFL Championships on Nov. 24. According to an official press release from PFL, Budd (17-6 MMA, 2-3 PFL) “refused to fulfill her contractual obligation,” and was removed from the bout

Kayla Harrison will return to action at 2023 PFL Championships in November, but not against her originally scheduled opponent. Harrison (15-1 MMA, 14-1 PFL) was set to face Julia Budd at the final PFL event of 2023 on Nov. 24 at The Anthem in Washington. However, due to an undisclosed reason, Budd (17-6 MMA, 2-3 PFL) is now unable to compete. Luckily for Harrison, she will get to keep her planned fight date as the promotion is working on a new opponent in UFC veteran Aspen Ladd , who has stepped up on short notice

2023 PFL 5 fighter pay: Aspen Ladd among five six-figure earners

PFL returned to Atlanta this past Thursday for the second of three shows in consecutive weeks at Overtime Elite Arena. 2023 PFL 5 featured final regular season bouts at heavyweight and women’s featherweight, as well as a showcase fight. In the main event, 2022 PFL heavyweight champion Ante Delija defeated former UFC fighter and Jon Jones teammate Maurice Greene .

The ten-fight card featured the Heavyweight and Women’s Featherweight divisions, with statement wins from Larissa Pacheco , Bruno Cappelozza, Olena Kolesnyk and Rizvan Kuniev.

The Professional Fighters League continued their 2023 Regular Season with PFL 2, which featured bouts in the Women’s Featherweight and Heavyweight divisions. The main event saw 2022 PFL Women’s Lightweight Champion Larissa Pacheco grind out a unanimous decision victory over women’s MMA pioneer Julia “The Jewel” Budd . The co-main event saw the return of 2021 PFL Heavyweight Champion Bruno Cappelozza, who rocketed up the Heavyweight standings with a first-round TKO victory over Matheus Scheffel in a 2022 Regular Season rematch. In an Amateur Lightweight showcase bout, Biaggio Ali Walsh improved to 2-0 inside the PFL SmartCage with a first-round TKO win over Isaiah Figueroa. The undercard also saw some exciting stoppages, with Amber Leibrock and Maurice Greene both scoring massive TKO wins.
